drilling holes for reservoir... issue!

Hi all,
I need to create holes in my case for a reservoir and was going to do it before I put some components in, but as OCuk sent out a res without all the bits I can to order another and get on with bending the acrylic, which meant I had to fit the components in to measure between 1/4 compression fittings.

I just received the reservoir but I can't be arsed to take EVRYTHING out of the case. Will drilling holes in the case created a short with the components in my case? For instance if minute shards of the case were to make contact with them?
 
Your motherboard and gfx card etc are covered in little bit of metal already in a designed layout. Adding extra ones, bypassing existing tracks or connecting ones that shouldn't be.. Just don't.

Not saying this to be a killjoy, but my first watercooled rig I skipped hoseclips because "I'll be ok til they arrive". It wasn't. One small drip on a gfx card PCIE slot wrote off the card and caused a minor electrical fire. Shards of metal in the wrong place could do the same.

Watercooling needs patience. The margin for cockup is too high.

You dont get better than that statement.

My build took 32 days, and life was extremely slow on an old laptop during the process.
I did hardline myself and had components in and out so many times I felt like doing the hokey cokey. And when I drilled an 84mm hole in the top for my res to poke through, the case was empty

Thanks for the reply. I've done the best I can to clean the case and components with compressed air. I might take the backplate off the gpu and give it another go with the compressed air just in case anything fell through the little holes on the backplate! Other than that I guess it's just hope and pray time. Going to take my time now that's for sure.

It was actually quite hard to drill the bloody holes in the Corsair 900D. The thing is a beast!

Edit - Would a small brush be ok to use too?
