Hi people,

I love the look of this car ever since it was out, but reading up about it they seem to have many issues with poor performance and economy.
I want to bin my Polo 1.9TDI (50mpg daily) for a Brera which seems to only get around 35-40mpg which I could probably live with.

Anyone here have one (diesel) any major issues?

Cheers

They are totally 'meh' to drive

Very striking on the outside, very average everywhere else. If you really wanted an alfa wouldn't a 159 be cheaper to buy?

I had never heard of one till I googled it and looked on Autotrader. Nice looking car but looks abit stupid having four exhausts when the 2.2+2.4 take at least 8 secs to hit 60. 3.2 version looks the only proper performance engine.

Great looking cars.

What about the Spyder? That way when the performance is annoying at least you can enjoy soft top fun :D

Had one as a demo for 2 months, 2.4jtd QV.

Loved it to bits, yes it doesn't set the world on fire but it didn't drink to much fuel - DPF delete and EGR delete and remap are well worth the investment if you do a lot of short drives.

They roll like a boat if you throw it around, but if your progressive and relatively gentle they are fine. If anyone sit's in the back then they ideally need to be a slim 5'0 yoga instructor.

Electronics - long term don't know, not read many issues.

Ideally, though this is just in my eyes, Sliver, black or red leather, Full length sunroof, 2.4 JTD QV model, remap, EGR delete and DPF delete, set of uprated Berea S spings and shocks or the like.

2.4 when mapped has about 250bhp and lots of tourque, and well in my view sounds ok for a JTD

Test drove one a good while back and really couldn't get along with it - seem to totally lack any interior space, despite being pretty large. Didn't handle very well, visability was shocking all round, seating position way too high, rattly and squeaky interior.

It does look lovely, but really that seems to be the only thing going for it

Had a 2.4 diesel, mapped.
Got rid after 6 months, would have been sooner if I hadn't held out on a price I was never going to get.

Loved the looks.
Didn't like, heavy, fwd, not great on fuel economy, short diesel rev range, several electrical issues (mainly brake switch I think)
The solid red paint is also soft as cheese, the state of the lower sills before the dealer sorted them was shocking.

I drove the 3.2L V6 version and it sadly didn't feel much faster than my 1.4L Bravo which was a shame. Look great though!

This. I had the same as above for a week long trial. Took it back swapped it for a 1.4 mito. Faster. Handled better. More fuel efficient.

Very pretty but heavy hence slow, inefficient, poorly handling and strangely cramped inside!

I have a 3.2 prodrive
To be honest i'm not sure your going to get much economy from any of the models as its a heavy car but my mpg is awful, add to that the cost of taxing and insuring and it is by no means a sensible car
Its not particularly fast and handles like a ferry (well compared to my old elise anyway)

That being said I have had it for 3 years and it still gives me a bit of a stiffy when i look at it and i no plan to get rid :D

I owned a 1.7 turbo 159 ti for a bit over 2 years, the later models all had the pro-drive aluminium suspension arms and lighter panels/floor-pan. The 1.7 turbo was amongst the most powerful (mine ran 227hp @ an RR meet) and the lightest form you could buy the car in (1430kg).

Handling was not blistering but not bad, it was very precise and gripped like a fiend, but feel was lacking.

Extremely comfy, and I still think it is the best looking saloon from the last 20 years.

You will not find the quoted economy figures, this holds true for the entire range.

I'd have one of these over a Brera, although they're not quite as pretty, they do seem to be a better all rounder. I reckon the sportwagon is even prettier than the saloon
