I want a BMW Z4

I see more of the post 2009's become available at 17K or so. But I can get a Boxster at those prices.....? What do you reckon?

What's a fair price to pay for the previous generation Z4 for a 2.3 say in good nick with a few options boxes ticked?

Having very recently been through a similar choice... I went with the Boxster... although I pushed the budget up to 24k so that I could get a decent 987.2 3.4S PDK with a bunch of options.

There are some other good cars out there for less but the interior is that bit nicer from the 987.2 range.

2009+... PDK and DCT are great gearboxes... older cars & both the BMW and Porsche auto boxes aren't the nicest of things to use... so go manual.

They're both reasonably reliable, so you shouldn't have to worry too much... Indi servicing/work prices should be vaguely similar... maybe a bit more expensive for the Porsche in parts and a touch more labour due to the way a Boxster is built... but there are some reasonably well priced specialists around.

Worth getting a AUC from BMW do you think? This one looks nice,

Satnav on this car not important to me - this is a runaround toy. Got Satnav on my 530d where it is critical. Folding mirrors is more important to help me get it into the garage.

Integrated sat nav wouldn't be a deciding factor for me either, can always use a tomtom and their interface is quite nice.

The 2009+ BMWs came with the decent iDrive, I think? That one is worth having.

The earlier models however, the inbuilt satnav isn't very nice at all and I would much rather have no nav and a tomtom or phone mounted to display sat nav.

Approved used is good for piece of mind (warranty etc).

BUT... I see that car is already 19k... if you can possibly push the budget a bit further... I very nearly bought this car:

It was between that and the Boxster I ended up buying.

Only 19k miles and a 2011.

It is an "IS" model which are a bit harder to find... comes with a bit more power by default, it comes with the adaptive suspension by default which is a nice option to have, a BMW sports exhaust and some other bits and bobs.

For the little extra it is over that 23i you posted a link to... I really think it's worth it.

Thanks crinkleshoes. Many more newer Z4's become available slightly over 15k, just as Fox said. I'm definitely not going over 18k or so and would still prefer a little less.

I gotta get the garage totally cleared out first!

You only get iDrive when you have Navigation on a Z4.

This, and not the navigation itself, is why navigation is important. Without iDrive you get a crap 90's style monochrome two line LCD display with which to control everything in the car. Yea, no thanks.

I know... my point was the pre-idrive nav is horrid & not worth the time... better to have it without
The nav is fine in the e85 really, not the slickest of things but it always gets me where I need to go and I hate having a 3rd party nav stuck on the windscreen. With a quick search online you can upgrade the system to have speed camera alerts, full postcode lookup etc...

The other problem with that is that without having nav you don't get a screen on the dash at all and are stuck doing everything else on the tiny monochrome LCD on the radio. I'd not have even considered one without it.

One week ago 3.0i only £4800 :)

High spec including Satnav, fantastic condition of the body work and only 84k

a lot of car for not a lot of money.

Thats a good price, I'm assuming it's an early model ('04) with facelift bumper and headlights fitted. The headlights would not have been cheap.

For £15k I'd be looking at an M. they're a great weekend car but you have to want a "drivers car" The manual gearbox is clunky when cold but satisfying, the engine is awesome at 5-8k rpm.
I've had mine close to 4 years, use it as a daily driver and love it. It's not really depreciated in that time either, they've really bounced back in the last couple of years. But that's countered by £500 road tax and pricey servicing.

Yeah, facelift Bumper, lights, CSL "Style" 19s SatNav with Digital TV, 10 Speakers....10 of the things, audio is fantastic for a 11 year old car, last owner spent a fair bit on her, I just need Heated/Electric M-Sport seats to complete the car for me.
