Safer Alternative to Buying Via Bank Transfer?

Hellooo!

I'm about to buy a £500 item from a private seller I don't know. They can't use Paypal as the item is restricted and they have suggested a bank transfer. BT gives me no safety, as far as I know, so if I do that and get a brick in a box I lose out.

Can anyone recommend an alternative, please?

Can I bank transfer from a credit card and expect protection?

If I was you, I'd just wait it out. If they are unwilling to wait 2 weeks for you to collect it, you can assume they were out to scam you anyway.

Is it drugs?

Paypal Gift? I think you can still reverse that if needed. Alternatively just do paypal without mentioning what it is?
