I got home from work to notice that both panes in the utility room window were smashed and my immediate thoughts were someone has shot them with an air rifle but upon closer inspection from the outside it appears the holes are too big particularly the bottom one. It looks more like a pick axe or something? Pictures below in spoiler tags:

If someone has tried to break in then it seems an odd way to go about it, there is a door right next to it which just has standard locks on it and there is a conservatory just a bit further along which has patio doors which are apparently really easy to break into?

There is a visible (working) alarm sensor in the utility room which would have set the alarm off but I do live in a remote area with very little passing traffic other than the 2 other houses that live on my road.

I assume they must have got spooked as a few more go's would have got them through the second pane of glass and in to perhaps get access to the window lock to open it?

Just seems an odd way to try and break in? Any thoughts welcomed as Im not in a happy place right now :(

It's probably kids with

cellotape+top cut of a bottle for the cyclinder bit the lid attaches to + a finger from some rubber gloves

Update - the house just around the corner has been broken into so definitely an attempted break in :(

Apparently they just threw a brick though next door and opened the window to gain access. I admit it seems odd (hence the thread) but you'd seriously have to go out of your way to end up over my fence and at that window.

The shed door was open too but there is just toys in there.

Well that's a bit of good and bad news I guess.

Bad news that your house seemed inviting enough to try and break in. But good news that they couldn't manage it!

Set up cameras with your uber-PC-skills or leave the radio on - sounds like you're in.

Most disturbing, fingers crossed never happen again.

is there a empty field opposite the window where something could have been launched from?

edit: seen above few posts. lucky is wasnt you! defiantly worth geting cctv and let it be known as a deterrent
