Marshall the Amp maker make their first phone

it's sad but i love the look of this! might stump up for one, been looking for something with a smaller screen maybe wait for some tests...

It's a smaller screen but the speakers give it some heft. The phone is a full cm longer than Z3C or Galaxy Alpha for example and around 1/3 thicker. It's the same size as most 5" phones.

I actually really dig the look of this and the chunky dimensions. Certainly won't pre-order one at £399 even if you get the Marshall Monitor headphones (£130 on Amazon with excellent reviews) but at around £250 could make a good backup/music player phone. It is a mid-range phone in all respects but be interested to see reviews on the audio side of things.

was reading about this earlier, I'm not that big on phones (or even Marshall Amps) but for some reason I really want one (maybe cause I'm more into guitars than phones i dunno) it just looks cool (or maybe its because my biggest complaints about my current phone are all sound related) whatever the reason I'm very tempted by this, so cant wait to see the thoughts of people who are more "into" phones :D

currently using a Nexus 4

It doesn't really say much about the audio processor.. And you can always buy some snazzy headphones.

It's pure marketing by the looks, although it is kinda cool, I'm out.

Would be interesting to see how it compares with HTC's BoomSound, so far I feel they're currently the top with phone speakers. Would also be interesting to see how well it can power headphones as well.

If it had a better built in headphone amp that could be a selling point, I don't see the need for it to have a dedicated audio processor, even basic phones are plenty powerful enough to cope with playing flac.

It's only selling point that I can see is the fancy headphones, but are they just another over priced 'beats by dre' scam? The phone itself is pretty poor spec for the price, unless I'm missing something your just buying a badge.

The last thing I want to see in a phone is louder built in speakers, the most annoying thing ever is idiots in public pumping out thier 'tunes'.

It needs a good DAC and AMP, otherwise why would you?

And no, good loud speakers are not for just your local bus tramps. Sigh.

Yeh amps are hardware, not just dedicated microchips, the specs seem sketchy on what the dedicated audio component consists of.

Marshals biggest selling point is that they use valves in thier amps, I can't see a mobile phone with an on board valve amp any time soon lol!

Does anyone honestly think it's not a Chinaphone with a Marshall logo slapped on the front and a bit of a UI reskin?

From what I have seen this looks like basically stock lollipop with some music focused apps/features thrown in.

Sounds like a nice device software wise. Hopefully they do a reasonable priced version without the headphones.

Reminds me a lot of the One m7 in design too.

Most phones support USB Audio 1.0+ if they have a USB port - could probably make a sub-miniature DAC/AMP combo to stick on a phone lol...

Actually sketched out a circuit the other day for an ultra low powered headphone amp that could run straight off USB voltage without a booster heh - not got to testing it though dealing with capacitor inrush strictly within the USB spec is a bit beyond my current working experience.

it looks like they haven't just taken any old phone , by the look of it.
they have had input on its manufacture with the twin jacks and the rotary volume control and audio output stage, so its a bit more than just a Android reskin and logo.
but can only go on the info available for now.
