Looking at doing a 7-10 day trip end of August or early September in Europe.

Will be staying in hostels, looking for cities with good night life and music scene.

I've been wanting to visit Amsterdam but can't think of a multi-city route that would include a stop here?

I've been to Berlin already, which, would have been the obvious choice.

Any advice from frequent travellers would be great :)

A good multi-city route would be Prague, Budapest and Vienna. Budapest and Vienna especially are very close together and lend themselves well to a twin-centre sort of break

Vienna and Bratislava are even closer, then from Bratislava you can go to Budapest, which is closer than Budapest and Vienna. Troika-centre sort of break.

I was out parting in Bratislava 2 weeks ago with locals and had a amazing time, the girls are so nice and very friendly, however my understanding is during the week its very quiet. There is a big lake you can go out to doing the day, its full of girls and has lots of water sports. Very nice overall.

Prague, I half live in again at the moment, the night life is very good on weekends but still busy during the week. Girls are not as friendly as Slovaks but still not bad. Its a much bigger and nicer city to visit.

Budapest, good night life again but I don't know too much to comment, I know its not as safe as argue.

Vienna, nice again but be ready to get your wallet out if you want to hit up some nice bars.

Trains are good and quite cheap.

How are you travelling? Thought of interrailing? You could even do a long trip as one of your nights to save on a hostel / hotel.

To be honest I'd say keep Amsterdam for a separate weekend. If done right there's plenty to keep you busy for a few days.

I'd echo Prague, Vienna and Budapest.

I didn't rate Bratislava much when I was there, but that was probably 10 years ago now. Outside of Berlin, Munich could be worth a go as well - it's quite a fun place to visit for a short time, though there's not nearly as much to do as in Berlin IMO.

Never liked Amsterdam. Used to work in Holland, so was often there, and just didn't like it. Was too busy for me, and felt too sleazy. I much preferred the smaller cities in Holland like Alkmaar and Eindhoven.

Zagreb is quite nice though. Nice old style. I quite enjoyed my time there. I also went out to the far east of Croatia, out by Osijek, and it was also very nice. Never did much of the West Coast though, but that is meant to be quite touristy, but nice.

Most of the rest of it I couldn't comment on. Went to Pecs in Hungary and it was very nice. Also been to Bucharest, and didn't enjoy it at all.

I agree its probably lower down the list when compared to Budapest and Prague.

Couple of photos of the lake

I went to Vienna end of June this year fantastic place (easily one of my best holidays) the architecture of buildings if that your thing is amazing the Schonbrunn palace well worth a walk and look round. The nightlife was ok some decent Irish pubs in the city but the place is fairly expensive i would add.

Vienna also has beach club place very similar to the above posted from Bratislava it abit out from the city but it looks fairly decent but i never went.
