Will technicians/scientists ever produce a computer which one can switch on and off and for it be immediately ready for use just like one turns on a light switch, with no boot up lag?

They must be working towards it? When would be hope to see one?

The problem with PC's is probably the BIOS which will use some kind of flash(NAND) RAM, the BIOS has to check all the hardware first and then load the bootloader, I think this is where the time goes.

Has anyone expressed an interest in paying lots of money for one that does?

I doubt it somehow.

Quantum computers are being pegged as the next major advancement of computers. That or organic PCs.

If either is developed enough it would see a big jump in what machines can do. With that the boot up times will shorten

Like a tablet? :p

I bought the wife a Samsung Galaxy Tab S and that still takes time to boot up.

Just leave it on...

I get problems with my desktop computer when I leave it unattended for some time. Programs seem to take longer to load, the cursor lags etc.

No, it just seems strange that almost every electronic item I have works immediately. Kettle, Vacuum Cleaner, Radio...... Well the TV does take a little while to warm up and wondered if scientists were sticking to old technology and just trying to improve on it rather than having a fresh look and coming up with something which worked at the flick of a switch?

10 seconds to boot up - all those ten seconds add up you know!:D

Tablets take time to boot up. My three tablets probably take longer than my PC to boot.

Unless ofc you're just talking about tapping the power button to wake the tablet up - thats not a "boot" - that's just waking it from sleep. That's no different to waking your computer from sleep by wiggling the mouse.
