Would help if we knew where you lived.

Lake District is beautiful and plenty to do, as is Cornwall, but both may be very far away depending on where you live.

Cornwall (one and all) has some beautiful coastal villages with harbours. Nice pubs, rugged scenery, some good beaches

Took kids to flamingo land north yorkshire price was ok has theme park and zoo not been for 4 years kids loved it plenty to keep busy with only,
Reason we stopped going was because we went to florida now misses wants some sunshine with her holidays so demanding

Is the Rhyl Sun Centre still there? I went on a church outing there once, must be 30 years ago lol. And there was a Lido somewhere - Prestatyn?

Sun center shut down looks like it will get knocked down or maybe turned into events thing but will no longer be used a swimming pool prestatyn lido gone long ago replaced with nova leisure center over 20 years ago currently closed for renovations opens october/ november this year

Whitby is one of my favorite seaside places and the moors/Dalby forest are only a few miles away, York is also close too so plenty of options

love it around here ,port issac boscastle ,polzeath camel trail moors ect ect
but my favourite bit is porthtowon up to Newquay including st agnes (the reason I fell in love with cornwall and moved down) perranporth ,polly joke and crantoc beach (drive down every week )

Whitby isn't a bad shout, lots of history and vampire stories for the kids.
Maybe couple that as mentioned with a spot of rambling/camping as a week in Whitby would get boring, but there's also Robin Hood bay close by which is worth an afternoon. Also a day out in York is always interesting, plenty of history and things to do there to.

Charmouth? Nice beach with the mouth of the river Char flowing through it. You can find fossils in the cliffs too.
