Hey guys,

I have a little Fiat Stilo 2.4 it's 13 years old, some bits have been done like brakes, spark plus, oil's the usual stuff, but what I need help / advice on is possible performance upgrades below.

Air filter, now am I best off getting a H&K replacement filter for about £40 or get the whole induction kit £130 ish, whats the pro's and cons for both.?

Exhaust, the standard exhaust is quite rusty now, I want to get an aftermarket back box as the original one is quite restrictive, so I've been looking at this https://www.gazzellaracing.com/product.php?productid=18121&cat=3239&page=1 for £285 OR I found this on the bay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TWIN-STAI...Domain_3&fits=Model:Stilo&hash=item58b8a806d2 for £50, now what would a £300 exhaust give me that a £50 doesn't? please keep in mind I don't want it to be loud like I belong outside my local Maccy D's with the Saxo crew, but I don't mind a nice rumble.

Also I want to upgrade the springs so Ive been looking at these https://www.gazzellaracing.com/product.php?productid=18384&cat=3409&page=1, nothing is better so I hear.

So can anyone give me any advice ?

Many Thanks

Don't bother save your money and get something decent when you can afford to. I spent thousands modifying my cars in the past - what a waste of money
If you do go ahead and do things remember to inform your insurance. They love a reason not to pay out.

I guess that's the other option, tho it will need a new exhaust soon, that's what I was originally looking at, then I started to look at other bits that I could upgrade.

Listen to this man. If it isn't declared and something crap happens, you're screwed. If you do declare it your insurance will be more than hally to stiff you. Royally.

You're also devaluing the car the more crap you stick on it (sorry to say but an exhaust or an induction kit does nothing for your value and the performance gains are negligible). The only way to really get any extra grunt is more aggressive cams, forced induction, basically very expensive stuff. This will reflect in your insurance too. Then there's the noise.

Buy something with more grunt if you want more grunt. Barrying a Stilo is not going to get you very far.

That what i like about you lot, you save me money, lol.. still I'll have to change the Exhaust due to rust, so maybe I'll pick up a original replacement one for £30 or so on the bay and just leave it at that.

Air filter/induction and exhaust are just noise enhancers to be honest. You'll be lucky to see any noticeable performance increase.

Saying that, I have a Spoon exhaust on my car which is just noise so who am I to give advice :D (declared ;))

Well my panel filter is 13 years old so I can only guess from flies and road dirt it's going to be minging, So maybe the K&N panel filter will be a good upgrade, it may even improve my MPG, without making the car louder? plus it's well hidden, so surely no need to declare it? it's just a filter right?

Depends if you are running snail power or not. A De-cat netted me 20BHP!

Have a watch of this:

You'll get no gains at all with a K&N one over a regular one from euro car parts.

That's a good watch, and in theory I'd save £30+ on buying a paper filer over a K&N one as it offers no increase for the extra money, but what about longevity of the more expensive one they can be washed and re-used, so on that basis you'd only have to buy it once instead of having to keep re-buying the paper one?

Ok, so with all your help I now know I'd be better off going with just a simple new air filter, but what about the two exhausts I linked why is one £200+ more expensive? what makes it more as they both on paper look the same.

Personally, I'd rather take it to a local custom exhaust place with a reputation. At least if something goes wrong with it they can't blame it on the person who fitted it, because they would have done it.

The £50 one will be made out of cheese.

Custom made is a good shout or stick with reputable brands. Magnex, Piper, Miltek etc.
