Hi all, I was looking for a cheap PSU for my daughters Christmas machine

Bought a BitFenix Neos & was thinking of a PSU to join it

Anyone know if the Fractal Design Essence 600W '80% Efficient' Power Supply

is any good?

Will have an FX CPU, 8GB RAM, SSD & a mid Range GPU such as GTX 960 or Radeon R9 285

Thanks

Buy cheap with a PSU and you're asking for trouble.

That EVGA 600W is a good call.

Cheap PSU's are usually fine if they carry a decent brand name. I used a £25 Antec 500W PSU for 2 years 24/7 with a Fermi card at 100% load and it didn't miss a beat.

The Fractal PSU will likely be absolutely fine.

Whether or not you spend the extra on a PSU which is perceived to be of a higher quality is entirely up to you, but I would say that it probably isn't needed unless the PC will be left on 24/7 or will be under heavy load for extended periods of time.

Though for an extra £15, you may as well get the EVGA mentioned above.

With the amount you are spending on those parts don't go and risk killing them with a cheap psu, evga above is a fine recommendation

Superflower make excellent PSU's & 450w should be fine for the rig you posted - review here:

What Superflower has here just so happens to be one of the best smaller units I've tested. The Golden Green 450W is efficient, quiet, and it regulates as steady as Clint Eastwood's shootin' arm. It's just about the best option that I can think of for general purpose light duty rigs with one video card. Bust out the wallet and grab one, says I.
