Considering a PC rebuild or desktop replacement & am on the fence at the mo.

How does the MSI Dominator Pro GT72 2QE-682UK fare as a gaming machine. Looking at Battlefield 4, Company of Heroes 2, and Project Cars.

Would it be able to play them all 1080p in ultra settings above 60fps. Would the answer be the same if I connected to an external monitor?

The DVD drive I would like to swap for either a BluRay Writer or another SSD. How easy is it to do this & where could I get a BluRay Writer to fit?

Will the 980m enable me to use G-Sync?

Yes the 980M should be able to cope with 1080p gaming with no issue, you may want to turn down the biggest hogs of framerate that have the smallest visual impact. What do you mean an external monitor? If at the same resolution as the internal screen then since it's the same resolution you will get the same FPS. If you mean 1440p it will need some detail settings reduced.

It's a standard optical bay so either a 12.7mm SATA converter (get a changable front plate so you can swap the original plate on it to make it sit flush) or a 12.7mm.

The GPU is upgradable in the future and the basic design is very solid.

Be aware you get 4x m.2 slots (sata III), 1x 2.5" SATA bay (SATA II) and the optical bay (SATA II) so you may be best off with an 850 evo m.2 drive in there any way.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.
Can you please provide a bit more info on the above as pretty new to this.

Anybody with the machine, can you let me know your thoughts on the games listed or any other gaming experiences.

Info on what exactly, I gave you the available slots in the system and the available SATA speeds available to them (as stated they are all SATA only).

Also I suggest you look up some 980M benchmarks, the machine will allow it to perform fully so you should be safe assuming you will get those numbers.

Which SATA drives are used for the SSD and 1TB HD & if I decide to put in a BluRay Drive which slot am I left with for an additional SSD and will I need to move any drive already installed to get the best speeds?

Well the mechanical drive must take the 2.5" bay so the ssd must take 1 of the 4 m.2 slots.

Take those away from my list and that leaves you 3 m.2 drive slots to do with that you will.

I was going to buy one of these when OC did a discount promotion on it.......

Waiting for stock. I emailed OC regarding restock times and an upgraded drive, but no reply yet

Hi there bwfc0907

In regards to playing the games you mention and external monitors, the answer is a resounding yes :)

We attended Play Expo in October 2014 and we had the GT72 Dominator Pro running all weekend with 3 external screens. All 24", all running at 1080p on ultra settings. Click on spoiler below for 3 x external screens at 1080p running BF4, Ultra High Settings, 1080p

Now bear in mind that is running on GTX880M, one of last years models.

In regards to G Sync OcUK offer two models, both of which are on offer this week with extended 3rd year warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I think the 682Uk version will be my limit. Would love the £2k model but to much of a stretch.

What benefits does installing another M.2 have in regards to gaming? Or will I see as much benefit installing games on the HDD?

Can you recommend a BluRay writer that would sit flush in the unit?

I was looking at this laptop and a 32" widescreen monitor (in fact... they are sitting in my basket).
However OC have now ignored my emails regarding restock & upgrading 3 times now.
Didn't really want to do what bwfc0907 has done an go elsewhere, but it looks like that will have to be the case.

I saved £90 on the price the majority charge.

Def worth the money.

Will OckUK match the prices elsewhere online Loki? (or perhaps any future promotions?) Just trying to get a good deal - I don't spend these kinda pennies very often!
Was really hoping to get a deal that included an MSI backpack/mouse/games etc, but I never seem to see those!
I too would be interested in what Blu-ray MSI recommend for the GT72 2QE-684UK
