I'm going on a 4 week break with my wife in February next year. The choice is either South Korea or Japan.

Both countries look amazing.

Which one and why?:)

If you can afford to go to Japan, why is anything else even being considered?

This is like "Halp pls, Paris or Skegness, I can't decide..."

Haven't been to sk but I've lived in Japan. It's not very tourist friendly unless you have a specific objective. Go there expecting to go with the flow you'll be disappointed

With 4 weeks and the proximity they are to each other, why not go to both?

You can probably get flights with somebody like Korean who will allow a zero cost stopover so it won't even cost more in air fare.

I thought about doing 2 weeks in South Korea and 2 weeks in Japan. My fear is 2 weeks won't give either country the justice it deserves.

We spent 3 weeks in China some months back which seemed like a great length of time for the areas we went to (Beijing and Xi'an and surrounding areas). I feel if we went for 2 weeks only it would have felt far too short.

So rather than do a rushed 2 weeks in both countries, we'd do a relaxed 3-4 week trip in either South Korea or Japan, and visit the other a few years later.

In the big cities it's very tourist friendly but if you go down south (as we did recently) it's a lot harder if you don't speak the language.

Japan by far, in my opinion.

There's enough to fill a couple of weeks in the Republic of Korea (Seoul, Busan, DMZ, Zerus) but there's so much more to do in Japan. Japan is more culturally significant to most Brits too.

I guess it depends on if you prefer K-pop or J-pop.

I've given it a lot of careful consideration and I think J-Pop wins this one.
