Alton towers?

Been to Thorpe park before, granted when I was a bit younger but just want to see all the hype around Alton towers supposedly being the best theme park in England. And gives us a chance to get away for a few days too.

I've stayed at Hilton St George's Park a few times, very close and new. Much nicer than the Alton Towers hotels.

I've currently got the GF looking for the accommodation. She's the much picker of the two, all I need is a clean bed for the night and I'm good. She likes all the fancy extras etc. I'll send that one over to her though see what she thinks. Yeah the Alton towers rooms are more aimed towards family and kids than adults really don't get me wrong I'd loved to sleep in an ice aged themed room or anything else but it's pointless

I've stayed in the Alton Towers hotel a few times, in just the normal room and it seemed very very dated. They also had one restaurant shut and the other fully booked which was nice... The ice age room always seems to be £400 a night minimum!

Don't bother with "Air". It's a poor, boring ride & regularly breaks down. Nemesis and Smiler are easily the best rides there.

As well as the rides there is a massive Garden with a maze etc which you can walk around and waste 1/2 a day.

Fair to say I don't think Smiler is going to be doing too many runs.

Rita is worth a shout providing the queue isn't too long, and Sonic Spinball is one of the best rides there imo, problem again being the queues with it being so close to the entrance.

There's loads of good rides there if you ask me, and the setup means it's a bit less intensive as the likes of Thorpe Park as you can walk between the areas and relax a little bit.

Regarding the Smiler, you are more likely to die on the road travelling to Alton Towers then dying on a theme park ride.

Same goes with aviation. Flying is safer than the road, even after you factor in MH370, MH17 and 9/11.

The whole Smiler situation is a real shame, firstly obviously for all those involved, horrific. But also because it's a damn fine ride, i'll be gutted if it doesn't open again.

I stayed in a creepy Beatles themed hotel in Nantwich. I wouldn't recommend it, as stated before, it was creepy.

I gig there at least 4 times a year, it's called The Railway Hotel run by two great people.
However, I am amazed that you stayed in Nantwich to go to Alton Towers!
They are 40 miles apart

Dunno if this helps, but i went to blackpool on sunday and you could tell they were taking loads of precautions, the rollercoasters were only using one train and they did like 10+ test runs before opening the rollercoasters

Not been for years but when I did last go 4 of us went and took a 4 man tent, stayed for the weekend in a field just down from the park.

The first morning I woke up it was raining most of the night and my pillow was soaked and I still have no idea how it was wet, there was no hole in the tent! unless someone stitched me up!

I drove there and back, but if I went again I'd probably stay somewhere because I was amazingly tired by the time I got back to my friends house. We did get around most of the park/big rides in the 1 day though iirc and we weren't rushing at all.

You can bet your bottom dollar that every single nut and bolt has been checked after the Smiler incident. Now is probably the safest time to go.

I went to Thorpe Park on fathers day (I don't habe a father or kids) and it was awesome. The longest queue was about 10 mins, we went on several rides multiole times too. Saw: The Ride was shut due to a safety concern raised after the inspections following the Smiler crash which was a bummer but still a great day nonetheless.

Also, tickets online are half the price of gate tickets, which is the price taken in to account on all those 2-4-1 vouchers so they're pretty pointless anyway. MSE has a whole section dedicated to Merlin Attraction tickets, simply search "mse merlin tickets" and you'll find it.

Have fun!

I also went on fathers day too, yea the queue times was great and had time for a beer or 2 :)
