Can't overclock 4 GPUs past 1.4Ghz

Hi,

I'm using MSI Afterburner to overclock 4 980GTX cards, and I've been using Fire Strike Extreme and Heaven Benchmark (Advance) to test how far I can go.

I can overclock the core to 1370-1380Mhz core clock and around 1900-2000Mhz for the memory clock. The test will always complete and give me a score. Temperatures doesn't even exceed 45C hardly.

When, I try get closer to 1.4Ghz core clock, I keep getting the error message (attached). I've increased the Power Limit and even the core voltage slightly, but it makes no difference. I've selected "Force Voltage" from the settings option in the advise of someone else, and it only lengthens the test for a few seconds before throwing the same error. I don't even get past the first test.

I'm assuming, I've reached the point where I can no longer overclock more, but I don't get it since it's only an increase of 20-30Mhz at best and up until 1370-1380Mhz the temperatures are no way near throttling.

Futuremark community seem clueless, so, I'm hoping you can help me out. This is my highest score, btw:

I'm ranked 84. :D

What's weird, I can't even reproduce that same score anymore. I'm always a few hundred points out. Are the two issues linked?

Images over 1,280 pixels wide should be placed in spoiler tags as I've done for you.

Here are the error messages. Can't attach apparently.

That error is a driver crash caused by an unstable overclock. You've just found the limit of your overclock.

Only step from here is custom bios with more volts - might get you an extra 20mhz.

As you're running 4 cards, I'd also put good money on one of them being a dud clocker. Try testing them individually. No idea what you're running 4 cards - 3 good clocking cards will prob score better than 3 good cards plus a dud.

When you say you increased the voltage a slightly how much is slightly?

Forcing constant voltage can be handy when your benchmarking as the drops can cause instability between tests when its going up and down to save power, but remember to turn it off again once your finished benchmarking so its not forced all the time.

I wouldnt start modding your cards, you normally only have to mod them once youve reached the power limits or your card is locked.

I went from 0 to 87 and increased the Power Limit to 125 from 100.

Same result.

Do power limit mod man so easy. Short the points simple as 10 seconds per card.

Hi 8 Pack,

I hear you're a legendary Overclocker! :D

I'd love to do it, but I'm way too sensitive that something can go wrong, and have 0 experience when it comes to doing something of this nature which, is why I'd prefer someone to do it for me.

Unless someone can make a video guide of some kind?
