Hi there,

I had 2 copied of Win 7 64bit. One on this machine, one on a media center I sold. How can I find out which I have installed on here, I plan to reinstall to get a fresh version of Win 10.

The 'product ID' when I right click 'my computer' --> 'properties' isn't the same as the codes on my Windows DVD packages?

All sorted! Thanks guys!

I'm going to rebuild my PC when skylake is released, can I install this Windows 7 again, or is it locked to the motherboard or something? This machine which its on now will be in pieces so it wont be installed on 2 machines at the same time, just one.

OEM versions of the software are locked to mobo, if its retail you can move it as much as you want

OK cool, I may as well just buy windows 10 then.....if it's any good, not read anything about it yet.

Thanks

setup a VM with the latest build on to give it a try. that's what I have done.

if you have a valid W7 install upgrade to W10 and then do a re install of W10 with your 7 key as then you will not need a OEM disk of W7 as you can get the W10 version instead.

W10 starts @ £79.99 from OCUK.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 32/64-Bit - USB Pen Drive (FQC-08789) £164.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit DVD - OEM (MS-FQC-08929) £116.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 10 32/64-Bit - USB Pen Drive (KW9-00017) £85.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 10 64-Bit DVD - OEM (MS-KW9-00139) £79.99
Total : £457.56 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

Getting around this restriction would break the terms you agreed to when you accepted the license.

And whilst it may activate on a different machine, this doesn't mean you're licensed. Lost count of how many people seem to think that, just because their copy of Windows activated, that means they have a valid licence.

If you want/need to buy a copy of Windows 10, a cheaper option might be to pick up an OEM copy of Windows 7 and then upgrade that for free as it'd be about half the price.
