Old Style driving licence

I was just wondering how people have the old style driving licence.

A chap at work said that it was illegal but i told him according to the Gov.uk site it is still valid.

So how many still have the old style with Grand dad rights?

Realistically it'll only be older people who haven't moved house in 20+ years. I know my parents only changed theirs because it was the cheapest way of getting photo ID for flights...

I have mine until about 2011 because I forgot to tell them I'd moved and didn't need it until then

I had mine until the CPC came in a year or so ago (got it in 1997 at age 17)

EU directive states that you have until January 19 2033 before you need to change to a new-style licence.

My parents still have their old paper licenses, although I imagine they will move before 2033 so will have a card version.

I was issued with the old one in May 1998.
I haven't moved since, but have just got the newer photo card to save using my passport for photoID. I still have the old one, I didn't send it back.

I'd have kept it as long as possible - now you have to renew it at a costs every ten years

That's my thinking too, a few chaps here have been scurrying around renewing their licences as they have forgotten to do it.

Anyone know how long your license can be lapsed for before you have to do something dumb like take the test again?

My mum still has her paper license. I think it might now be in 3, perhaps 4, separate pieces
