National Insurance 'card'?

Anyone ever heard of one? My son went for a job interview today and was asked for one. He had his NI number with him, but was specifically asked for a NI 'card'.
I've never heard of one before, and certainly don't have one... :confused:

Yep it's the card your NI number is provided on, mine arrived just before I was 16 IIRC automatically. Which was 10 years ago.

Yep. Usually gets posted to you around your 16th Birthday I think.

I just memorised my number.

I remember getting the card. Meant I could buy cigarettes for all the smokers at school - which was profit for me

I haven't even bothered to rememebr my NI number. It'll always be "on some paperwork" I've got lying around if/when I need it.

How have you got this far in life and not know about the NI card? Have you been locked away in a garden shed or something?

They get sent to you just before your 16th birthday. Assuming you parents registered your birth and address.

Seeing the pics above, I do remember getting one, 30 plus years ago. Always remembered the number so never needed it...
