Do you need a flagship phone?

Never understood the people on here who upgrade every few months. Must have more money than sense.

My s6 will be with me for at least two years. Maybe more this time as I just can't see how they can improve the smartphone much more in its current guise.

Everyone says that but they will always get better.

Better speakers, better battery life, better cameras, better screens, better DAC's, better bluetooth revisions, etc, etc

for me what matters is Camera (family/kids) and Battery

i dont think a phone exists with best camera and amazing battery as of yet :p

closest all-rounder we have is the Sony Z3

I'm happy with my nexus 5, but if the new nexus or any other phone which gives you pure android experience without the crap that HTC and Samsung put in. Will have...
- Better battery e.g. 3200mah seems resonable?
- Better Camera
- 5inch screen is plenty, anything above 1080p on a phone seems unnecessary for another 3-4 years.
- I really like the ergonomics and that naked feel of the nexus 5.
- IR Blaster would be a nice add-on, not really something that would put me off buying a phone.

Then I'll surely upgrade, for the time being I take my rucksack with me pretty much everywhere. So carrying a compact powerbank is not an issue as I get 2 full charges and 1 charge upto around 80%.

If my nexus 5 didn't have a derp battery I'd keep it for another 2 years.

personally, no, I dont need a flagship phone, but I have one as I tend to keep my phones until they start developing hardware faults and are not economical to repair or for around 3 generations, ie s2>s3 is 1 generation.

Better battery would be nice, wouldn't say no to better DACs but I'm not too bothered aslong as they are atleast reasonable for headphone use.

Using BB Z10 here, best mobile OS bar none. If it had access to the apps I need now (banking apps, transport apps and now home automation) I'd never even think about changing it as the handset is perfect and the OS is flawless. I really don't get people who rush out and buy handsets for £600 and £700...wtf

I'd gladly take lesser performance of a 'flag ship' in exchange for double or triple the battery life cause that's the main issue imho

I never thought I'd buy a flagship phone until a few weeks ago. I bought a Z3 for £300 when it was on offer, I'll keep it until it dies & have gone sim only rather than renew & get a new phone.

HTC m8 user here, I'll probably be using it this time next year too. Does everything and more that I need it to do.

probably would've waited a few weeks as it looks like Sony is releasing the Z5 in August. If anything the Z3 would've come down in price I imagine but congrats anyway! How is the phone? do you like it?

I still have my Nexus 5 since launch, Love it in the process of replacing the battery to give me more time with it :)

Although i would like a waterproof phone with decent specs, So i am keeping a eye on Sony Xperia z5 release depending how reviews treat that i might go for that down the line.

The proximity sensor died when I replaced the Screen (with non-genuine) on my Xiaomi Mi2S. I seriously considered a side-grade, repair or direct replacement. It's Nexus 4 / HTC One era hardware but no sign of slowing down in anything I threw at it (The 4.3", 720p screen helps I guess). Hasn't got 4G but HPSA+ seems fast enough to me and I do most of my internet usage on Wi-Fi.

I did even wonder whether I could tolerate a downgrade. When it comes to battery life pretty much everthing is a downgrade as I had the 3000mah battery upgrade.

Flagship territory is pretty barren for those that like smaller phones. To get much of an upgrade from the Mi2S without hitting 5" you're basically looking at Z1C, Z3C or the Galaxy Alpha. I'm too embedded in the Android ecosystem to consider migrating to an iPhone.

In the end I've ordered a Galaxy Alpha along with the official extended battery. Sonys aside it was the nearest thing to a small flagship from last summer and the price has roughly halved since launch.

Would have likely still had my Note 2 if I hadn't lost it. Replaced that with a 1520 (around the time the Note 4 came out) which still seems absolutely fine to me. May look at picking up a cheap Note 4 when the 5 comes out just to get back on Android, but not really for any hardware reasons.

I went from a Nexus 4 to a One M8. It's definitely faster, with my M8 hardly ever slowing down, and the M8 battery life absolutely smashes the Nexus 4.

I never like buying "present" or outdated hardware. I'd rather futureproof than get something which will satisfy my needs at the time but give me no room to grow into, so I can't imagine ever getting a mid or budget tier device.

No but I want one. I have a Moto G and want a great camera and it seems flagships are offering that.
Shame flagships battery life are seeming very subpar especially since your paying lots of money.

Not to mention many sealed battery designs kill longevity.

My S4 still runs everything fine. It was used when I bought it. I've dropped it a few times and it's quite scratched. But no need to upgrade anytime soon. When I do I'll probably buy another used or refurbished older model.

Same story for my Nexus 7 2013 tablet.
