What small car for £1,500?

Doesnt really matter if its a slow car, I am not planning on doing a lot of driving and definitely not going to be speeding at all so it doesn't need to go faster than the speedlimits say :)
As for the look, I think they are quite nice looking!

Anyways thanks for all the help! I think I will buy a Yaris within the next 6 months or so :)

The first Yaris is an awful little car, ugly slow and noisy. I hate them so much.

It was a pretty good car at the time of its release, things have moved on but it was very well received at the time. Not awful, when compared to rivals!

I beg to differ as well, they were easily best supermini of that era, great design that has aged very well, super reliable, cheap to run, comfy, practical, the 1.3 is a peppy engine, and they are good to drive.

One of my Uncles drives an auto version as his daily and he is very wealthy with quite a good car history and he seems to rate the humble little Yaris highly.

They're barely any better than my old mk4 Fiesta and that was a £500 banger 4 years ago, how anyone could spend £1500-£2000 on one is completely beyond me.

They are worth <£1500, anything more are usually chancers, they are still desirable so good examples can fetch that sort of money (1.5k) and the rare auto's a bit more. There are plenty of Yaris for £500, all bangers with ropey history.

Jus because the budget is £1,500 doesnt mean it will have to be that amount. I have seen few that look good and are under £1000 :)

I had a nissan sunny that cost about 400 euros and it worked really well for good few years. (When it eventually broke down I sold it for 140€, I was surprised). So I know you can get a car that works fine for cheap. But it is always partly down to luck too.

Damn , shouldn't be no more than £1000 according to CAP + approx. 10% , im assuming it is a manual you got ? Even at £1995 it is way way over priced.

it was £1775 after getting some money back, this forum said its a good choice from seeing it's advert and dealer mislead me. But at the end of the day it's a good runner, my wife loves it as her first car and I learnt a lot about car dealers. Just need to replace the rear shockers. Yes, it's a manual.

What was up with the car?

The advert said it done 95,000 miles (not 98,000) and that it had central locking.

2k is daft money for one, but it is superior to the MK4 fezza in just about every way, the fiesta was and antiquated design at the time of launch, they rusted for fun, and werent all that reliable, which is why you see many many more Yaris on the road than the MK4 and even MK5 Fiesta's.

If you have the licence to drive a manual I think you should do it. An automatic in this price range probably won't be great and has more to go wrong. For the sake of your first few hours getting used to changing gear with the stick being a bit ropey it makes far more sense in the long run to get used to driving a manual.

I remember this thread, didn't the forum tell you a Yaris was a good choice for £1000 and then you went and spent ~£2000 on one before showing anyone the advert?

EDIT: Yep!

From memory pretty sure no members recommended the Yaris you bought, you posted the advert after you bought it, no one would have recommended a base spec old Yaris for 2k! Most members on here would have a heart attack at that! :D

All the Yaris' I seen ~£1000 looked like they been used as rally cars. I didn't say any forum members recommended it, I said they said it was a good choice, the dealer led me up the garden path.

Seat Ibiza 1.2 70PS :)

Or a 1.4.

Decent motor for the money. Might need to check the bushes and drive-shaft gaiters but apart from that, solid. (if you buy well) :)

I must recommend that you get one with electric windows and climate control though... :p
