Fire in Vegas

Monte Carlo fire was longer ago than you think.

I would imagine the drinking and the temperature make it ripe for fires. That and the large concentration of complete idiots.

you're right 2008 :o time flies when you are old ;)

on the upside most seem to be no serious injuries unlike the one at the old MGM (now Ballys) 30 odd years ago, how that ended so badly is ridiculous

that is the main factor presumably... drunken Jersey Shore types...

Looks like it's just some palm trees and poolside furniture that's burning. Didn't a bomb go off in the car park at the Luxor once and they just carried on running the casino as usual?

Shouldn't the people filming those videos be like...evacuating the building?

Nope, you take a selfie first, then you call the fire service.

Then you stand around taking selfies with the firefighters.

If you have time you upload a wobbly portrait video of the floor/sky to youtube,
"lol, fire..."

that's how it works :)

The fire was reported about 12:15 p.m. Both the Clark County Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, sending 110 firefighters and 35 vehicles.

O_o

All about perception - no way can they afford to let a fire even slightly take hold. Could give off the perception that the Casinos were unsafe, tourism takes a hit and the whole town suffers.

So go go massive overkill.

only marginally overkill :p

I was in San Diego a couple of weeks ago and there was smoke coming from a kitchen extraction vent on a roof. Admittedly there was a lot of smoke so there must have been quite a strong fire in there.

However we counted 14 fire trucks, about 5 pickup trucks and about 50 firemen armed with chainsaws and other badass looking equipment.

Americans sure know how to do things :D

I suppose the problem is you don't know the extent of the fire, the likelihood of it spreading, or the number of people in the building and any buildings which the fire might spread to so you have to respond as if the worse case scenario is happening until you can establish its not.
