Helping to build a PC for a mate who is a photographa

He does not game, but uses Photoshop and a bit of low level video editing

Any recommendations for a card ?

Nvidia 750ti/950/760 should be more than enough. Even a standard 750

What will he edit video with?

Can you ask them exactly what software outside of Photoshop they are using now??

AMD has better OpenCL support and Adobe has transitioned most of Adobe CS to OpenCL now. It came across since Apple pushed massively for it on the OS X versions which transitioned yonks before the Windows versions. There are even videos of AMD and Adobe reps talking about the collaboration on the Windows version, and there are now more certified AMD cards for CS than Nvidia ones. Stuff like Sony Vegas runs better on AMD cards too.

I would probably get something like an R7 260X at most but if your mate has a Haswell CPU,then try the IGP first - Intel has also made decent gains in OpenCL performance too.

Cheers chaps. I think it is really low level editing. Proberly phone footage of his kids. He does not film professionaly just takes pictures

What CPU does he have? I would try the IGP first and not all software benefits from GPU acceleration too.

Go for an AMD GPU Jim as we have excellent OpenCL 2.0 support in our latest Radeon cards and Adobe loves OpenCL.

Here is our OpenCL 2.0 driver and it's supported on GCN 1.1 or higher so you'll be wanting one of these for him. :)
