Hi,

I have a GTX780 sitting idle in my HTPC (I seldom game anymore) and thinking of selling it and changing it with something cheaper that will still be able to play smooth at 1080p. Any suggestions? My price target is around 100€...

Thx

He is not looking for a better card, he is looking to downshift while pocketing a bit of change in process.

There have been a couple of deals on 7950 over the last couple of days, with prices around £90... Might be a good idea to keep an eye open for one of those.

I feel like this will inevitably be sideways and not worth the time/effort/risk of swapping to a similar 2nd hand card.

Not meant offensively, it's just how these pieces fit together.

My scenario was to sell my 780 for 250€, get a used 750ti or 7850 for around 100€ and earn around 150€. You think it is not worth it? The CPU is an Intel 3450, maybe I should keep that for movie playback?

You can't buy much with a hundred euro atm so no, I don't think it's worth it. It's just such a massive downgrade.

So what about R7 260x or 7850 or 750Ti. Is it not possible to find one of those used for around 100E? Can these cards play at 1080p?

To be fair any card (within reason) can handle 1080p, it's just how low you're willing to lower the settings!! For me I'd try to get a 7950/7970, one of those should give you what you need. Probably the best bang per buck you're going to get :)

Even if you seldom game, it's probably not worth it. I have downgraded at times in the past, and in hing aight, it was never a good plan.

Even if you only play a couple of games, the likelihood of you wanting to play something a 750, etc can't play will come along long before it would with a 780, and then you will probably end up changing gpu sooner.

780 can easily last you years if you aren't fussed about pushing settings to max.

I found my old 7850 (also called a 265) did a good enough job and providing you don't mind lowering the settings it will be fine for a good while and it'll allow you to pocket a few quid from the deal.

Of course the newer the better for longevity.
