Alex Salmond: A second Scottish referendum is inevitible

The cult of the SNP is actually quite worrying from my perspective it looks a bit like if you're not SNP you're not for scotland.

They seem to have managed to make voting SNP the patriotic choice rather than the correct democratic choice.

I don't like Salmond at all either but he's right another one will come.

Really easy to achieve if your opposition consists of labour and the conservatives, labour tacitly not knowing where the hell they are going and the Tories, well...

What are the Labour & Tories are they a cults as well ?

It's nothing to do with patriotic choice, You can vote for whatever party you like it's called democracy.

The SNP are desperate for a second vote asap. They know the increased powers coming their way will mean they can no longer pin all problems on "Westminster", and they will have to make unpopular decisions if they are to govern scotland effectively.

The UK should pass a bill prohibiting repeat referenda within a defined timeframe. Two full parliaments doesn't seem unreasonable.

Two parliaments isn't long enough. 4 would be better. There is no reason to have another ref earlier than this. They said it themselves, once in a generation. So FFS, leave it a generation.

You are correct. They would want it sooner rather than later, as otherwise they will be given enough rope to hang themselves.

And while, perhaps, Ms Sturgeon didn't actually say she would prefer another Tory government, I would be willing to bet she is quite happy with it. It plays right into her agenda of blaming the Tories for everything, including devolved matters.

This is the problem. Apparently I wasn't a true Scotsman because I wanted to keep in the union. I was apparently a traitor to the country, flag and ancestors. Despite it being our ancestors who signed up to the union all them years ago.

I voted no because it was the democratic choice. I would never get a government I voted for otherwise. What the SNP supporters don't appear to realise is how a democracy actually works. I was forever accused of only voting for myself, and how selfish that was. But that is how it is meant to work. The result of voting for yourself is that the winners of the vote ARE the majority of the country. A point lost on many of them.

To be fair though, many of them are really quite stupid too. They appear to be of the opinion that they will get as good a result in the MSP elections next year as they did in the GE. They obviously don't realise how the voting system works in Scotland. I have no doubt they will do well, and have a majority in Hollyrood. But they will no doubt be disappointed when they only get a touch over 50% of the seats.

From the perspective of a northern england labour safe seat - labour is yes. I certainly wouldn't discuss politics with my father, He'd be more understanding if I revealed myself to be a bi-sexual trans-gender muslim than if I voted Conservative. Most old coal mining towns will be the same.

Was in the highlands the other week and was surprised how many 'yes' banners and flags were still up, that's not political, it's personal. Not sure about the united kingdom but a united scotland seems to retreating into the distance.

Yeah right, There was no vote by the population of Scotland.

At the time of the Darien expedition the Union of the Crowns had effectively placed foreign policy in English control. Scotland was stopped from trading with two of it's previous main markets because of English wars with Holland and France. However England refused to let Scotland trade with England's American colonies. Pressure was put on potential English investors in Darien to withdraw. England also refused any assistance to the scheme in case it upset the Spanish who had neighbouring colonies and were supporting England in their war with France.

Threats and bribes were used to so that the Scottish establishment would vote for the Union including paying off their Darien debts. Once the Union was in place the taxes on the ordinary Scotland people increased very substantially, in part to pay for England's huge national debt caused by there wars. Those who voted for the Union had previously been promised that they would be exempted from these taxes.

Sounds very familiar with the so called Vow & Smith Commission and the watered down and poisoned chalice that new Scotland Bill is and will be.

Scotland is not always better off as part of the Union.

But now there has been, and the population of Scotland has chosen to remain as part of the union. It's a shame that so many on the losing side are in denial about the result and throwing their toys out the pram in response.

It's a shame that plenty of you people forget to realise a lot of No voters did so because they were promised things that the Tories are now trying to back out of. There is plenty of reason to believe a number of no voters have changed their minds because of the Tories being Tory.

It would still have been a NO

academics from the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Essex, found that among no voters only 3.4% cited the offer of more powers as the main motivation for their decision.

This. As I mentioned earlier, I know NO no voters who voted so because of the "vow". And I know none that are particularly upset at what has happened since.

I know plenty of YES voters who are upset. But then they didn't vote for the vow, so, meh!!!

I know quite a few who voted no but still think that all decisions on domestic policy, tax and welfare should be taken in Scotland (anecdotal evidence is no evidence at all). That is the picture the unionist campaign was keen to paint in the days leading up to the referendum. It turns out it was just a deception.

In September of last year, Cameron said “If Scotland says it does want to stay inside the United Kingdom then all the options of devolution are there and are possible”. He then uses his England based parliamentary majority to block the form of devolution favoured by most Scots and then proceeds to lecture the SNP on "English voted for English laws". The hypocrisy is actually mind-bending.

English votes has nothing to do with Scotland, and everything to with screwing Labour.

The form of devolution favoured by the SNP is independence in all but name, and won't work for the reasons set out in the referendum campaign.

if Scotland wants to remain in the UK, with increased powers, then those powers must work within the framework of the UK. What the majority of people in Scotland favour is only part of the picture.

Nonsense. Any "English only" law that has any spending impact by definition affects Scotland due to the barnett formula.

You treat your opinion as fact. It isn't.

So, all extra powers that Scotland get should be by the gift of the English?

Weird because it sure doesn't look like that. It's very much like voting labour becuase there is no one else representing the workers Regardless of the fact that the reminents of tony blairs labour party are split into 2 weak and deluded factions under one faint red (partially blue) banner.

The north labour and unionist stronghold sure does behave like a cult.

From an oustiders perspective it looks like the snp have positioned themselves as the "scotland party" a vote for snp is a vote against Westminster.

As an Englishman I was incredibly disappointed when the Scots voted to stay in the union.

Watching Salmond destroy the country with his fantasy economics would have been a once in a life time opportunity.

Pretty much this, his back of fag packet sums with regards to oil revenue wouldn't have got my 6 year old a pass in maths and he sold it as a solid economic plan......please!
More importantly though I wouldnt have to listen to the sodding Scottish footy results every weekend, still gutted

You can just picture it, Scotxit!. Refugees crossing the boarder, humanitarian aid, a black market in the pound, food stamps, hundreds of thousands claiming to have English ancestry...
