It's The Brits Not The Germans

Always baffles me how people go somewhere nice like Alcudia and spend their time at the hotel / complex pool . Go to the beach & see the place you paid to get to?

Indeed, I usually hire a car and go exploring when I visit a "sun" holiday, we visited Lanzorte a couple of years ago and I hired a VW Golf and we went up the molten mountains, travelled to the other side of the island and found some beautiful beaches and also found some amazing caves. Staying beside a pool all day long isn't my idea of fun!

To be honest it is nice to do both. I like a 60/40 split of exploring and relaxing around the hotel/pool. It has to be a nice hotel/pool area though. I can't stand walled / concrete jungle pool areas next to roads etc. I will only stay at a hotel that has a nice private gardened pool area surrounded by nice grounds.

what utter BS! High season = common folk and you are saying that anybody with children are not high class.

My wife and I have a 12 year old child, and my wife is a school teacher, so we have no option other than going on holiday during high season (school holidays) but of course that makes us a low class family. :(

Get a ******* grip sun-shine!

Did the "polishing my top hat" bit not imply that I was somewhat less than serious?

This.

I always thought the towel on the sun lounger thing was a myth tbh.

The Germans started it, we're just better at it :) Brits only seem worse because you can hear what they're saying. As a fellow Brit said to me on the ferry to Calais as we were standing in the queue for the bar (in his loudest voice); 'I tell you what mate, these ****** foreigners are ******** arrogant'.

Brits are worse on holiday. Moving sun beds into silly places, getting on them at silly o'clock (I must admit that I do this, but you pretty much have no choice when everyone else are doing it and at least I stay on the sunbed), taking over the pool, bringing their own music blaring out by the pool side, having loud parties in their room. I generally try to avoid Brits on holiday tbh.

Yup, we are on average a very badly behaved nation when abroad, especially the under 35's in groups. I also tend to avoid them at all costs and would never go to one of the cheaper package places where they would generally come swarming to. It's worth paying more for the peace and quiet.

Wow, someone clearly has a sense of humour as developed as a 13 year old. If you couldn't get fact that he was joking from the sardonic language he used then words (almost) fail me... all that was missing was a large neon sign. :D

Methinks someone also secretly has class issues. :p

WOW. That time of the month is it? :D

Brits are the worst on holiday.

I don't necessary agree with that. I went to Lawfords Hotel in Kenya some years ago and a note was pinned to the telegraph pole sized upright of a permanent thatched umbrella stating: This place is for Herr Schicklgruber reserved for the period of 1 - 21 XX. Beat that!

BTW most Germans have very neat handwriting.

Haha, does he not realise he is the "foreigner" when on holiday abroad?

Well maybe he was joking but most things said in jest like that have an element of truth in deep seeded opinions form the person who said it and made it out to be a joke.

I've been to some resorts which eliminated this nonsense via reservation on the loungers/parasol based on your accommodation class/type during your entire stay.

Spain isn't that bad, it's a quick hop. What really baffles me is people that fly the other side of the world to do the same thing. Just why?

As for sun loungers? What are they? :p. Alternatively find somewhere where it is off season and go there instead of you must have a pool. I think in the last three nice hotels I stayed that had pools like this we were just about the only people using the pool (or seemingly even in the hotel). Cheaper rates, quieter hotel and much nicer atmosphere.
