Hello folks
About to start a new build, and I'm having a bit of a monitor conundrum.
What would you say is the best 27" 1440p IPS monitor for gaming (and general use.)
Things like 144hz and G-sync would be nice, but they're certainly not essential.
I'd been looking at the BenQ GW2765HT and AOC Q2770PQU but reading suggests they might be a bit sluggish for gaming (which I know is always a downside with an IPS.)
What about the Dell U2715H? Seems to be a bit nippier in terms of response time and input lag!
Then there's the LG 27MB85R which, according to wispy rumour, is a very good gaming IPS. But it's hard to find any definitive information to support this.
My max budget is £400 - £500.
So, to reiterate, what is the best 27" 1440p IPS monitor for gaming?

Thanks.

Just having 1440p ips 144hz is enough for me, i dont have the monitor but in the process of saving for one.

Gsync adds a lot more to the price tag if you want it as well

So taking Freesync out of the equation (since I won't be able to use it with my NVidia), and factoring in that 144hz is not an absolute necessity for me, would you still say that the Asus MG279Q is better than the BenQ GW2765HT, AOC Q2770PQU, Dell U2715H, and elusive LG 27MB85R that I mentioned?

It's not really fair to compare the Asus MG279Q to those other screens. The Dell for example is aimed at a different market it's for those people who want to to produce content and need to the colour accuracy that IPS brings. The Asus has that benefit plus a refresh rate of 144hz which negates the common criticism of IPS monitors and as result it costs more.

If you can afford the Asus get the Asus, your most likely going to be using it for a long time so it's worth the investment now. IPS & 144hz with Freesync is what many of us have been waiting years for.

for gaming, yes. response times are better, input lag is much better (non-existent) and the added refresh rate support does make a significant difference. Full review here: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus_mg279q.htm

I've got the BenQ GW2765HT and have got nothing but good things to say about it to be honest!

I'm sure there are far "better" monitors out there (as is evident by the price) but for the money I think it's a cracking screen!

Thanks for the responses folks!
Baddass, when you say the MG279Q better 'for gaming', it makes me wonder about it's deficiencies in other areas. Is it a case of it's colours/contrast not being as good as the other monitors mentioned? Or blacks? (I play Elite: Dangerous which has lots of space imagery so good blacks are important.)
I do indeed game - but not pro/competitive/frenzied! A bit of speed from the monitor is certainly desirable but not at the expense of image quality. A lot of the reviews I've read says image quality is very good, so hopefully it'll tick all boxes!

It has no deficiencies when it comes to picture quality and it has better blacks than some IPS screens.

But it's an IPS panel and comes with the same caveats as all IPS panels. TN and VA have better blacks, all IPS panels have IPS glow and they aren't as good for twitch gaming as TN panels. And it doesn't have a blur reduction feature.

Just want to add, if blacks and gaming are two of the most important things to you then I would forget about IPS and consider a TN panel. And if blacks are the single most important thing, then you should buy a monitor with a VA panel, they have by far and away the best black levels.

Yes, I would probably take the plunge and get the MG279Q today were it not for the QC issues.
These problems seemed to be most visible a month or so ago. Have Asus got their act together now? I don't really want to become an RMA-Sisyphus!

Let's put it this way, you have as much chance of returning the Asus as any other IPS monitor. It seems to be a total panel lottery as to how bad the IPS glow is.

Grrr! I know it's a lottery, but it does sometimes seem that the odds are even more stacked against us with certain manufacturers!

Well, I would say not really. Unless you are buying cheap imports, then all bets are off. You are more likely to get a good monitor than a bad monitor, just the people who get a bad monitor complain more.
