It's The Brits Not The Germans

I'm currently on holiday with my family and everyday at 6 I go down to one of the pools and put our towels on 4 beds, I then go back to bed and after breakfast we have a nice spot at the front of the pool were we can relax and keep an eye on the kids in the pool.
The earliest time you are allowed to reserve is 6 so this is when I come down.
I personally think this is a fair way of doing things, the earlier you are prepared to get up the more choice you have in sunbed location.

Isn't that the fairest way? And as to those that say they would just chuck the towels in the pool, really?

The gripe I have about people reserving beds is the fact that someone might want to use it and would be bored/done and gone by the person that reserved it comes back. The whole thing is pretty pathetic really.

If I saw that I would go out of my way to uncut that and put it somewhere else
I would set fire to it.

Back on topic, what kind of idiot spends 2k on a holiday, then sits in a lounger the whole day and misses out on the world, just doesn't make sense.
I sure as hell wouldn't.

It's unbelievably that people want to reserve these things. So, you aren't there...but you're not using it...and someone else needs to use it. Why the hell are you reserving it then? Out of principle I would not participate in this. Screw you people that do!

I can't say I'd willingly vist a prison camp holiday resort.

On Friday I'm flying to Vancouver where I'm going to stay with friends and do things. Booked a hotel in Whistler for a couple of days at the end of the fortnight but I doubt we're going near its pool, there's a lake to swim in and hike about.

I do get that there's people out there with less money and more children, they're such chumps. :D:o

You can keep your plastic sunloungers and swimming pools with plasters in. The hotel I was staying had a pool but this was an hour's drive away and much better.

They should have towel wardens who go round recording the time people are away and chucking towels in the pool if they don't return within 30 minutes(hour for lunch).

Its the *******s that get up at 6am on holiday that need a slap. :)

Yeah, sitting on comfy rocks, that looks awesome.........

Unless the hotels start to enforce the "no reserving lounger" signs they put up, it will continue to happen, or a good idea is to just supply enough loungers for the people they have staying in the hotel, but we know that will never happen.

Funnily enough, i have never seen this kind of behavior with loungers when staying in Mexico or Jamaica, etc, sometimes sleeping in late after a late night and just wander down to the pool/beach just before lunchtime and jump on a big double-bed type lounger, it must just be a Mediterranean thing with the lounger reserving :p

Well maybe he was joking but most things said in jest like that have an element of truth in deep seeded opinions form the person who said it and made it out to be a joke.

What are you, my shrink? If this is true I've got some serious questions about the moral fortitude of literally every stand up comedian. I've half a mind to head to the fringe festival right this instant and start rounding the monsters up.

I feel the need to clarify, I'm not classist, I used to travel by bus on a daily basis, and I've watched at least one entire season of benefits street, I'm very progressive.

I also don't hate kids, I used to be one, and I liked myself quite a lot.

Sometimes a joke is just a joke. Like all of the above, just in case you need it pointing out.

nope... the fairest way is to go and use a sunbed when they're free and leave it for others to use when you're not using it

if they have a rule allowing you to reserve beds then fair enough but plenty probably don't in which case I don't see an issue with moving a bunch of towels if there is no one actually using the loungers

Just back from a week in Menorca with my girlfriend. Fantastic hotel - lots of British/German/Italian/Spanish couples there (adults only) and absolutely no problems from anyone by the pool or outside the hotel/at the beach. Although I guess Menorca attracts a quieter crowd than Ibiza/Mallorca (exactly why it appealed to me :))

What is the point of going abroad if you're going to stay the whole time in a hotel complex ? the chavs holiday.

This unfortunately seems to be the norm, wherever you go and regardless of the season - unless winter of course.

Part of the issue is that the hotels put signs up saying you cannot reserve a sunbed, yet do nothing to enforce the rule. They need some sunbed wardens walking around clocking the towelled-but-not-in-use sunbeds, and if no-one has returned in 30 mins or so, (or more if during lunch) they remove the towel. This saves burly chavs from starting a fight with someone who's nicked their towel.

By not doing anything about it, means the only way to guarantee yourself a sunbed is to go down at stupid-o-clock and dump your towel on a sunbed and return to your actual bed for some more sleep.
I would have thought that hotels saying you can't reserve reserve them means in an official capacity, ie through them?

I also don't really understand why so many people think a towel equals a reservation. It's utterly bizarre because a towel is so easily moved and indicates little to nothing.

While probably not as cheap though there are plenty of ways to enjoy the Mediterranean without staying at bog standard holiday resorts i.e. people rush to Palma or Magaluf but there are plenty of other ways to holiday on Mallorca even taking in the sea and sun without having to deal with your average standard of British tourist (for the most part).

(I'd so rather hit Canada though myself)

while I see the point you're trying to make it isn't a very big pool.... :p

There was a much bigger area father down for people to swim in but as I can't swim and there's no lifeguards I thought better of it. I do accept that it's probably not ideal for children even though there were loads there I can't see why some people can't venture out of the norm even if it's for just one day.

As for the rocks, with a towel it was fine because the rocks were smoothed and weathered down. Probably more comfortable than any lounger I've been on.

Ummm, hate to say it, but this is what you get when you stay in 'resorts'. Go out on a proper holiday.

Yes, chucked right in. What is it that a towel is doing exactly? It's not actually stopping anyone from using the sun bed in any sort of way.

If you aren't there using it, you really shouldn't be trying to lay claim to it if there are other people around at the time who want to make use of it.

It's like leaving your coat on a park bench and expecting that to mean that no one can use it if you decide to get up and go for a walk.
