Is it basically just HDR1000S or are there other options I should consider?

Ideally I want;

Ability to record TV
watch catch up TV. Netflix isn't so important as I can get that through my TV
Supports HDMI ARC so I can use 5.1 soundsystem

How about something left field - Wetek Play
AV Forums - Wetek Play

Not a plug and play option - more bleeding edge - but with Enigma2 recently added it should be interesting - just over £100

The best deal I've seen recently - Xtrend ET8000 - £159

I run the older XTrend ET9000 - again, takes a bit of setting up but there are plenty of guides around.

I've already got a HTPC. I just want an everyday normal satellite box.

If you already have one why not add a tv card then.

If you want it to function just like a sat box but with htpc functions you can use openelec - kodi this what I do it's great and I use an ir receiver so it's all controlled by remote.

Old thread but just want to thank Sootie for the suggestion.

I went with http://webshop.openelec.tv/ ~£70 including dual sat cards.

Excellent box and my first venture into Openelec, so fast and stable much better than my windows server that was trying to run kodi + live tv. Very easy to set up and get working as I want it.

Think I will be changing all my kodi devices to Openelec where I can.

I'm in the market for a free sat box as well after ditching Sky, would this be a dual solution for Freesat and my Raspberry PI then? The website doesn't give much away.

try this one http://eopenbox.co.uk/product/openb...llite-receiver-box-web-tv-upgrade-of-f5s-v5s/

I am also upgrading to this one http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk...er-DVB-S2-HD-Enigma2-Linux-Satellite-Receiver

the OpenBox V8S is easy to set up with channels etc , second one getting in a few days.

Not quite sure about your question. It will provide dual tuner freesat running XBMC on the front. Then you could use your PI on another TV and pull the live tv from the box. Not sure how it behaves when you run out of tuners for what you are trying to do.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I need a freesat receiver, looking at the HUMAX HB-1000S and am wondering if that's the best way of getting around my lack of freeview reception (have a dish already mounted!)

Thanks :)
