Hi guys, I currently have a 7970 with a EK water block on it. I am upgrading my whole machine soon, not just becasue of Skylake, but becasue the HDD's a nearly full etc. I have stopped playing GTA5 too becasue my 7970 can't cope at decent settings.

The new card will be watercooled also, so it doesn't need to be quiet out of the box.

I run 3 24" dell monitors at the moment at 1920x1200. I want to buy a new monitor....or three to run at 4k? I still need to do some reading on this, is 4K worth it?

What gfx card would you recommend? If I need more than one to run 4k well then that's fine too.

EDIT - Forgot to say, I only game on 1 screen and I might like a 27" or a 32" screen(s)

Monitor wise I'd look at a 34" 3440x1440 21:9 as a great replacement for a three screen set up, It's good for games and I presume you used the extra screen real estate for work stuff and this has plenty.

To run it you'll need a high end card like the Fiji and GM200 models for decent gaming although the 980 and 390x would do a fairly good job especially if you go for the 2560x1080 version of the monitor.

Thanks a lot guys.

I still want my 3 monitor setup, i will be replacing one monitor, but depending on price and recommendations, I might replace all three, but I only game on my central screen.

I've never done SLI before, but in all reality I don't game a lot, I just bought GTA5 becasue it looked cool, but I found it played so bad on my 7970 I've given up on it for now until the upgrade.

Do I want a g-sync monitor? As I say, I game about once a week, I mainly use my machine for web design and various bits and bobs so maybe SLI would be a bit over kill, although my 2 quad rads in my 900D don't have a lot to do at the moment, one for the CPU and one for the 7970!

Does a 980Ti overclock well?

If you don't game much I'd go with something like a 390 and a 144hz 2560 x 1440 IPS freesync panel for the centre screen that you game on, You save 200 quid on free-sync over g-sync for those specs meaning you get a great IPS panel with free-sync for your games and when you compare the cost of a 390 to a 980 or 980 ti you are saving another 100 or 200 plus so you can get a great set up for 3 or 4 hundred quid or so less than the Nvidia equivalent and it'll run anything you throw at it nicely.

If you want to max games at 4k from what I've read you'll be looking at the fury x in crossfire or 980ti in sli , as said the amd is probably the cheaper option , read some good reviews about the free sync panels !

If it was me I'd be looking at 1440p ultrawide, that's just me though :)

Nvidia option
2 x 980ti ~ £1000

AMD option
2 x Fury Pro ~ £860
2 x 390 ~ £500

The AMD Fury option will get you very good 4K performance and save you enough to put towards a monitor. The crossfire scaling is better than SLI. A FuryX will be even faster but will cost around the same as a 980ti setup

In the above benchmarks there is no 390 but since it comes close to a 980 I would use that as a reference.
