Windows 10 - Best Free AV?

Hey guys,

So now Windows 10 is out I thought it would be good to get peoples opinions on what the best free antivirus is to use now. Apologies if there is a thread that already exists.

I have used AVG for many years but I get the feeling that it might have gone downhill. Is the built-in Windows Defender now good enough? Or should I still be looking to install something else as an alternative?

Don't need any at the moment I would say. Wait till the reviews of the in build security pans out.

Windows Defender
and your routers hardware firewall are all you really need

I'll probably still continue to use 360 Total Security unless it has problems...

I like Avast,lowest on resources and latest is 100% Win10 compatable.

I prefer better free protection,ie better free AV like Panda,Avast,Bitdefender,hardware firewall,free version of Malwarebytes anti-malware(yes works great with Win10) and good dose of common sense.

As said...defender...schedule task to force update definitions and malwarebytes.

Another Avast user here. Never had a problem with it. The pop-ups have got worse lately though

Avast user also. It has started on a slope to get bloaty with popups and upgrade hassle but I still like it the most

Has anyone actually seen the Windows 10 version of Defender in any tests yet? Is it the same as Windows Defender in Windows 8.1?

Its called Windows Defender and its pre built in as it has been for years

Windows Defender on 8 is different from the one on 7, on 7 it was only a firewall, but starting with 8 it has MSE integrated into it.

I was tempted to leave it as it is, but then decided to install Avast anyway. Seems to be running well with no problems so far.

Why do you need aftermarket AV? Aren't we all supposed to be PC users who know what they're doing? The inbuilt security is all you need when you know what you're doing.
