Is the GTX960 really that bad?

I'm looking for an upgrade to my HD6950 at the moment, it's getting on a bit now and modern games are pushing it a bit too far (it's like having a fan heater under my desk!).

I've been looking at the GTX960 as I know it's a decent step up from what I've got at the moment whilst at the same time being 1) cheap and 2) a lot less demanding on the electricity bill.

However I'm also considering the 970 as I know it's a lot better... but it's also a lot more expensive and has about the same power draw, and therefore heat, as I've got now.

I game at 1920x1200 (got 2 monitors but I only game on 1 of them, the 2nd is just for photo/video work) and I've not got plans (or budget) to go 4k any time soon.

Thoughts?

Power draw is a factor between these 2 cards? There's about 20w between them.

How much do you pay for your electricity!?

Could've sworn I'd seen it being more than that! It's not as much the cost of electricity but the sheer amount of heat the damned things kick out, our living room as south facing windows and it kills me during the summer!

[edit] I'm guessing OCUK have got this one listed wrongly then as it shows 225w!? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-377-AS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1010

that card you have linked has a theoretical max power draw of 225w,but in reality it wil be around 170w under max load at stock clocks.

For 200£ (even less as you have access to the MM) the 970 is a great and efficient card.
I don't know how much you would save, but I think it's better to invest in good option, than buy something that was never intended for enthusiasts (just a word to say "gaming decently").

200 or less from Ebay.
As it would work just as well, I don't see much difference between buying new or used when the card has been around for several months and you can find any model.

I sold one for about £180? brand new (970) a week or so ago. Just keep an eye on the MM or start a wanted thread.

The 960 is totally weak.

960 is a great lil card, the 970 despite gimped memory is also a good card. Much more grunt than a 960, if you can get a good price either card is a good option.
