Black screen of death

Hi there,

Ran into an issue I'm a bit stumped on how to solve.

I've done the update to Win10. After my first restart, the screen went black and annoyingly staying so. I've left it over night and tried again, still nothing. It starts up fine making all the right sounds, just no screen.

Any ideas?

I should also add that it works fine when I use another monitor, just not my main one

GPU drivers updated? I had black screens when I updated till I updated the drivers.

Not a thing. Screen is completely black.

I've tried different input settings on my monitor and set it to HDMI (which it was originally anyway). Still nothing

To the latest Nvidia before the Win10 install. Also works when I plug it into another monitor

Hmm. It works now. I simply unplugged the monitor entirely, plugged it back in and it started working.

I really wish I understood these things better. I'd love to know what changed suddenly

Anyway, at least it's working.

Had this myself earlier. Booted the computer up and it went to a completely black screen (no cursor or anything) and the button on my monitor was flashing like it does if I shut down the PC and leave the monitor on. I hit the reset button and it booted to Windows as normal. I'm running the 353.62 64-bit drivers from Nvidia.

I'm glad it's not just me whose had this.

From what I understand the solution is to switch off "fast start-up" (under Power Options/Choose what Power Buttons Do). It certainly helped me and startup time was not affected at all.

Hijacking thread because I have this issue. Two monitors, I can move the mouse between them, if I press ctrl+alt+del the option screen comes up on the main monitor, but not found a way to actually do anything. I see people saying update graphics drivers, but kinda hard to do that when I can't get to the desktop!

Edit: Got frustrated, unplugged all but one monitor, removed the sata cables for my 5 other hard drives and it finally logged on, and gave me an error about the paging file, since that was on one of the removed drives. Plugged everything back in and it's back to the black desktop.

No idea if it was the HDs or the onitors which fixed it, but either way I got it activated so time for a full reinstall!

I'm having something similar when I boot up the pc and shut down the pc...When I boot up the screen goes black for about 20 seconds with the mouse curser on the screen but nothing happenes and eventually it goes to the lock screen. When I shut down sometimes that same black screen with a mouse curser comes up but the pc doesn't shut down it just stays on that...
