Is Our Universe a Fake?

I think you're confusing ordinary matter above the atomic level with sub atomic particles described by Quantum Physics. In Quantum Theory, specifically regarding quantum entanglement, it is not possible to know the spin of a pair of particles till at least one particle is observed. I believe that Schrödinger's cat thought experiment describes this paradox quite well.

Above the atomic level though matter is matter whether you are observing it or not. A rock is still a rock even if nobody is looking at it.

I was thinking of the double slit experiment which shows that a particle is a wave until it is observed. They have done this experiment with quite large molecules and they behave in the same way.

Pathetic life forms. You cannot even begin to comprehend the true meaning of your existence.

Nah, just kiddin'!

One that I always stuggle with philosphically is that none of you may exist.
Think about it, I can't prove that the world existed before me, because I wasn't in it. Technically I cannot prove that you are actually real or sentient, infact the only thing I can prove is I am aware of you and the things around me. With that in mind, when I wasn't alive (aware or existing) nothing may of existed.

It's a bit like if a tree falls in the woods does it make a sound, but in the sense that none of you did exist or will exist when I'm gone. Although that means if this world exist only for me, why isn't it my paradise! :(

The thing is no man is an island of metaphysical certitude. So i dont think you can go down the cartesian path of....i think therefore i am but everything else it is possible to doubt. That to me is a sort of category mistake...thinking you can remove yourself from the equation..that you alone are above the world you are in.

You cant cut and paste yourself out of existence or others (or specifically 'the other') out of existence. Reason being...is what makes US is US! Quite literally speaking. for example...language and the meaning of words...how does that come about if only 1 person exists.

To paraphrase Wittgenstein

Philosophical problems are bewitchments that arise from philosophers' misguided attempts to consider the meaning of words independently of their context, usage, and grammar, what he called "language gone on holiday"

So the cat being in the box and not in the box at the same time, is that like a divide by zero error?? Is that why cats just sit about all day doing sweet FA. They all think they're stuck in a box?

So the cat being in the box and not in the box at the same time, is that like a divide by zero error?

The cat is always in the box, but it is simultaneously both dead and alive until the box is opened and the cat is observed. Then it becomes either dead or alive.

Surely if you leave the cat in the box for long enough they all become dead?;):)

It's like everyone just assumes Stephen Hawkins is super intelligent. And yet, bloke in a wheel chair with a laptop strapped to it. How do you know he's not just "Googling" it all and taking the cash??

I love these kind of thought experiments, but I always come to the conclusion that it's ultimately pointless. A few nights ago I had one of those dreams where my dream self had memories of things that had happened in the dream past. The dream me was standing on the edge of a lake looking at a castle that was next to the lake.....and all these feelings and memories of a life associated with that castle washed over me, and remained there for a time when I woke up. I tried to contemplate this for a while, but it made me cranky so I got up and had my Shreddies instead

You should read up quantum entanglement.

Two particles that are entangled. Unobserved they are spinning both in up and down states.

Separate them over a long distance. Look at one of the particles, if it has an up spin the other will somehow know and when measured will have a down spin.

Hows that work.

I love the simplicity of the rebuttal that the universe can't be simulated because irrational numbers can't be represented by a computer. That is, a computer can not hold the full representation of pi and so the 'natural' occurrence of irrational numbers can not exist as part of a simulation.

Until you realise that the simulator only needs to be one step ahead of the simulation that is delving deeper into the irrational number..

These aliens need to upgrade their computers tbh. This simulation just doesn't look good anymore.

Maybe the graphics of this simulation are indeed rubbish. Maybe those who created this sim can actually see in all wavelengths, other dimensions, vast distances, etc. So to them our "reality" might look like the pixilated games of 20 years ago look to us.

So Stephen Hawkins = Castiel?

What people don't realise about Stephen Hawking is that it's his laptop that now does the talking. His last genuine message was his coded (but desperate) warning that the AIs are going to take over. If only we had heeded his cry for help...

I wondered why his wheelchair had sprouted rocket launchers!
