Struggling to find a direct comparison to my situation through a quick search so thought I'd post here. basically I have 4x 185/55/15 tyres on my Corsa C, and from reg searches (3 sizes available) and use of a formula that gives the below difference I found I could use 175/65/14s. Ordered all four replacements, so mixed sizes wasn't an issue. Got a mobile service to install them at home (1 tyre totally flat) and got told he wouldn't do it as they're not the same. Is it not possible to just change the size as the difference is 0% for the speedo? Or is it that the wheel rim size is fixed?

Costco are anal like this too, they will only fit the exact tyres that were used as oem, so no changing of profile :( Shame because a slight change in my tyres saves a fair chunk per corner.

GO somewhere that actually wants your money :P
And if they moan about coming out and not completing the job but wanting paid make sure you tell em to jog on

You need to keep the rim sizes the same surely? Its like fitting a 17" tyre on an 18" rim...not going to happen?

It's fine to change all 4 of your wheels like that, but i don't really understand as you want to go down to 14" wheels you must have another set of 14" rims?

so just fit the new tyres to your new smaller rims and get someone to swap them with the 15's you already have on the car?

Your wheels are 15" in diameter and youre trying to fit tyres which are 14" in diameter? Dont you see an issue with that?

Yep. You can change the full wheel (like if you got a winter wheel set) for that size but 14" tyres just won't fit on 15" rims.

You probably just became that fitter's pub anecdote of the year..

Cheers guys, realised as I posted that the last number refers the required rim size, what a ****. I got too excited with the cheap 175s haha.

You can change the width/offset (to a point), but fitting completely different diameter tyres? Nope :p

You often end up looking like a colossal dingleberry when you do that

15" means the inner diameter, this must match for the tyre to even get on the rim.

If you want to fit 14" tyres, you'll need 14" alloys / wheels.

If you had 185/55/15, you can play a little bit with the first two figures (width and percentage of width=height.) but not the third figure.

I suggest you get the normal sized tyres.

A cheap size with plenty of options you could go for is 195/50/15. Loads of good options in this size. I use Bridgestone RE002, they were about £40 each. Awesome tyre

I bet that fitter was laughing :p
Just get the oem spec tyres as 15's are quite cheap anyway.
