Kinda hoping that they do the marathon at the cinema, back to back like they did with the last avengers.

The doubt I have is Disney not wanting to showcase the prequels/

Why wouldn't they? They bought the franchise not the creativity. They'll make a ton of money off the prequels too.

Can't wait for the new one!

OP. DO NOT WATCH THEM IN 1-6 ORDER.

Part of the enjoyment of 4-6 is that they have a little mystery about the past. Some things come as big surprise and are completely ruined if you have seen 1-3 already as you will then know about it. Ignore anyone else, and watch them in the order they were released.

This.

Just 4-6.

1-3 are cringe-worthy and quite terrible. Though every scene with senator palpatine in 3 is pure (hilarious) gold!

LOL. One person voted to watch the prequels and not bother with the originals. Someone be trollin'. Either that or are they have lost a few marbles. :p

I would watch 1 - 6

you'll enjoy some of it I think.

I posted recently about star wars. I watched all of them and struggled with the original trilogy. its just dated now. the prequels could have been so much better if they had some decent actors and no jar jar etc

hope the new one is worthy but we'll see

You dont need to bother with the prequels, they are quite simply dross.

Even accounting for the Ewoks, Return of the Jedi is 10 times the film of any of the prequels.
The Battle of Endor is a fantastic piece of cinema taken in isolation.

Having 2 little boys, I've kinda thought about viewing order in the future :) I think I've settled on 4-9, then treating 1-3 like The Clone Wars and Rebels - just something to watch for more back story if they're interested in the whole SW universe. That's assuming 7-9 are any good of course. Which I'm sure they will be.

Because that's the order of the story . It's not difficult, is it? I understand your point above, but then it works the other way round (eg. you know what's going to happen to Anakin, broadly speaking).

It doesn't work the other way around at all. The fact that you know about Anakin's future actually helps the prequels, as the story is unfinished puzzle, leaving you to anticipate how events unfold in to the "future" that is episode 4. The prequels actually reference certain things that happen in the original trilogy, these would be lost if you hadn't already seen the originals.

I maintain that it is pants-on-head retarded to watch them in chronological story order the first time. Subsequently, yeah obviously it doesn't matter. The fact remains that the prequels were made with it in mind that you would have seen the original trilogy, and the originals in turn were made with it in mind that no one had seen the prequels.

Just a thing, the whole skit with the new film has been doing it oldschool.

Disney cleaned shop of a lot of the prequel era stuff in the cull when they grabbed lucas... my feel is a lot of that stuff will come back when Disney have wrenched the fans of the originals back.

Disney kinda have form with this in a sense, they did it with Tron.... When legacy was near release, the original was pulled from existence, they didn't want to disaffect the new audience they were marketing for.

Normally I agree 100%, nobody leaves money on the table, certainly not rinse um clean Disney. In this instance though I just think money is under the table waiting to show, that prequel stuff is waiting, certainly in the toy lines.. And those 3d films are there waiting...

That said id like to be 100% wrong and go see 1-6 in one lovely clump:)

4-6 and then 1-3 because I think the reveal in Empire is better this way. As you haven't seen any of Star Wars, I suggest this order - the prequels will take away too much of the mystery that is in 4-6 otherwise.
