Hey Guys,

I am looking to build my first PC ever!. I have been involved with a simple case changeover but never built a full PC myself.

I am fairly well versed with the different iterations of processors out at the minute but just want a bit of advice, or better yet a parts list to help me out

What will the PC be used for?
The PC will mainly be used for office application (word, excel, notepad ++, etc). I would like it to be capable of multitasking (30+ tabs in browser + excel + notepad++) and to also be able to run dreamweaver and Photoshop without breaking a sweat.

I would like to be able to do some light gaming every now and then (minecraft) but this isn't a big concern at the minute.

What would you like in terms of spec?

CPUI Have been doing some research lately and am loving the reviews of the Pentium G2358
anniversary edition as it is known to be a good , solid, all round CPU with excellent overclocking potential (not to mention INCREDIBLY CHEAP!! )

I would like the socket to preferably be 1150 as I am likely to upgrade to a 4th gen I5/I7 in maybe a year or two when money allows me to. The Pentium would simply be a placeholder.

MOBO: Im not too concerned which chipset the motherboard uses so this will be up to you guys. I would LIKE it to have USB 3.0, SATA 3, 1600MHz RAM capabilities though.

RAM: If possible I would like 8 GB DDR3 1600MHz but 4GB would be fine for now and I can upgrade later.

HDD: I already have a HDD so this is not needed

CASE: I would LOVE a mini-itx/atx case in the shape of a cube (I'm probably asking too much!). I do like the look of the bitfenix prodigy on sale on the site .

I already have an O/S and all peripherals sorted so that won't be an issue at all. I also don't need a GPU at this point in time.

if it's possible maybe squeeze in a aftermarket CPU cooler

I'm not a big fan of the AMD A series APU's as I'm looking for something that I can upgrade to a 4th gen Intel CPU down the line.

Anything else is up to you guys!

BUDGET!!!! A WHOPPING £250-£300 Tops

I hope this can be done, if not I'm certainly up to hearing any other suggested builds

Thanks in advance!

The processor is socket 1150 so will only work with that ;)

I know you have a HDD which is great news, as you can get a SSD which is strongly recommended these days. You can use it to install Office, PS etc on and store your other files i.e media on the HDD.

Great cooler, case, motherboard and power to take into consideration future upgrades :)

Hi buddy

Thanks very much for the reply . I am hoping to spend just £300 as an absolute MAX. It doesn't have to be an ITX build :)

Hi.

Do you need a power supply, or not?

If not then..

Will totally be fine for minecraft.

You wont need an aftermarket cooler, you can over clock the G2358 quite happily on the stock cooler.

Cheers for the replies.yes I will need a PSU :). Sorry for the awfully tight budget!!.

Yes that betfenix is an ITX case but I don't believe it supports MATX

Yes you can but only to a moderate amount and temperatures won't be ideal, unless you fancy having a morning fry-up in your case :p

Dacads, that looks excellent! Not sure how you got it only £6 over budget WITH an SSD but kudos!!.

Would the Z97 anniversary MOBO and the exclusion of a CPU cooler allow for a better case?

If you say so.

We actually have one (on the stock cooler) at a decent overclock of 4.2, with ideal temps, mated with a 560ti '448' (not the coolest of 560's) for epic Minecraft goodness.

Honestly, just save an extra 20 quid and go with the case you want, the better ram and the better PSU... it will all do you better in the future when it comes to upgrading a little.

Threepwood

Could you possibly add the evga 500w from spec above into your build as opposed to the superflower?

Don't know how to do the basket thing on phone!

Sure, but I would not buy it! For the extra £20 the gold one will run more efficiently, which means a cooler system and it will pay for itself, eventually.

I seem to have a better time when overclocking on a better PSU too, anyway, here you are...

Thanks Again for the reply, I appreciate you taking the time to help :).

That build looks great. I do have a 1TB HDD to use but it's only 5,200 RPM so will most likely be slooooooow.

I do understand what you mean about the other PSU but I am looking for a budget build, I think if I don't set a limit, the costs will just spiral! Haha.

Extra £20 here and there soon adds up for a budget build.

I would like to come in at £300 but will bump up another £20 if necessary.

I do agree with the MOBO but would a Z79m really be detrimental? I can get it for ~£15 cheaper than the DS3H also.

I'm trying to think ahead but if I have a good base for the CPU and MOBO then I can always replace and add later down the line. The pc will only be used solely for office application for its lifetime.

Honestly an SSD is a must and taking out a cooler isn't going to allow a better case either. Spend an extra £10 and you can get a nice Fractal Design mATX case but it's not a cube design, those seem to come at a price!

What I would personally do is stick with my spec and get a better case later down the line. You will need a cooler for when you upgrade to i5/i7 anyway ;)

Or even the gigabyte Z97P-D3 for £61.99

That's ATX I'm afraid, you want a mATX or mITX case which will only house those size motherboards :)

Okay, lets have another look.

First I would agree that an SSD is needed, but to fit that in you need to take a minor risk with a B grade motherboard, and go for a cheaper case.... how does this sound?
