Tyre Damage - Is it ok?

Noticed some tyre damage today and was wondering if it the tyre is still ok and safe or if it needs replaced.

I had looked about online and I think it might be ok because there is no cord showing, but I want to be sure.

Think it'll fail an MOT.
Tbh I'd rather change it...

Went and checked, I'd say about 3mm deep, but not more than 5mm as best I can tell.

I'd change that, a weakened sidewall isn't a good thing.

I would replace it - probably not too terrible but I'd rather know the car was solid rather than worrying it was about to blow a tyre. Also the pressure looks a little low (may be wrong, esp if its the front).

Okay I change my mind, definitely get it changed. I thought it was much shallower!

I should say that my deepness estimates are probably cautious and it's likely not that deep. But I think it is better to be cautious with estimates such as this.

Change it - and if the axle pair isn't fairly new, change the pair so they both match

I would probably change that to be on the safe side. It looks like a pretty big chunk of the sidewall has gone.

I had similar damage and it passed an MOT as no cord was showing.
I changed mine never the less.

This is motors, surely you mean "get a brand new matching set of tyres, otherwise you will surely be killed in a terrible accident" ?

Planning to get it looked at on Saturday if not sooner going by the responses on here which seem to suggest it should be changed as a precaution rather than a definitely bin it immediately as it's definitely unsafe / MOT failure.

Change it, the first thing you will know if it's damaged is when it goes pop.

Obviously it will have weakened the tyre. I had one like that once and had no issues. But then it wasn't quite that deep.
