Hi all, i'm confused as hell so would really appreciate your advice. I have a Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX980. It's a brilliant card. Love it. However, I recently purchased a 3440x1440 AOC monitor (non gsync). I like my eye candy and the 980 is struggling.

Per the title, what would you suggest? I can sell the 980 I have and purchase a 980 ti. Or for slightly more - go SLI.

Thoughts?

Cheers!

I'd say it depends on if you plan on moving to 4k & as to if SLI will cause heat problems in your case.

The 980ti is a fantastic card, but sli 980 are also great.

Personally I'd go for the 980ti & sli those later on if you need to. The 980 will have decent resale value for a while longer but not in the gent gen.

Thanks for the responses guys! In earnest - I'm even more confused.. seems to be a 50/50 split between the two configurations..

Rule of thumb go for fastest single GPU you can afford then Sli until a new single GPU kicks Sli butt, then rinse wash repeat etc.

I like that Trunkey!

Any thoughts on what fps I can expect on GTA5 and Witcher 3 using a single 980ti on a 3440x1440 screen? I want to hit 60 - but I know that settings will need to come down.. anyone doing this?

Settings would have to come down a lot. My sli 980tis can do 50+ fps on ultra witcher 3 @4k

I feel like slapping my early-adopter self. Seems as though the world isn't ready for single card 60fps+ ultra 3440x1440 gaming yet..

As I understand 3440x1440 is 40% easier to drive than 4k. But from the sounds of it - I'm "still" going to have to go SLI on the Ti's to get what I want..

Thoughts?

I was managing 40-50 FPS average on GTA:V with a mixture of high/very high/ultra settings with 2x MSAA, on a single 980Ti, on 4k. 4k is 3.2m pixels (8.2m vs 4.9m) less than 4k, so I honestly think a 980Ti would not struggle at 1440p Ultrawide.

I've yet to try Witcher though, so I cannot comment on that.

In all honesty 45 FPS is considered playable by me, so I didn't mind turning on some eye candy for the loss of 15 FPS.
