Asus B Grade RMA Issue

No I think you are missing the point, there are members of OCUK customer services such as Bailey and 5UB who time and again show that they are committed to customer support and are willing to go that extra mile to help out where they can. Unfortunately not all OCUK customer services staff appear to share the same commitment. As evidenced by this, other threads and my own experiences it can be a lottery when it comes to whether or not your request for support is dealt with professionally or you are just fobbed off. It's frustrating but I think OCUK are working on this and I have seen an improvement over the years, but there is still room for improvement.

Bailey is awesome. :)

Then flipside is evident from other threads when people just post when they are unhappy or need special attention. How many issues are resolved without 5ub aor Bailey stepping in? We will never know, but if someone mis interprets how warranty is delt and isn't happy with an "up to " 28 day turnaround then they fall into the I want special attention category.

The situation with warranty for B grade cards where manufacturers only deal with retailers needs adressing though and I don't think ocuk would have refused dealing with it if the op hadn't assumed that ocuk wouldn't touch it.

I think you're missing the point here, you have to look at the second part:

After the 90 days warranty from OCUK (which is 90 days longer than something bought off eBay) it is then down to the discretion of the manufacturer, some of them will deal, some like ASUS will not. If people don't like those terms, then don't buy clearance graded stock, it's real simple.

You are the one missing the point. Asus does not do rma's with the end user so you have to go through the shop were it was purchased. If the shop then basically tells you to get lost you are left with a expensive paperweight. Before you go on about don't buy b-grade if you don't like it, it has also happened with brand new items as well. The shops customer service staff need educating and stop fobbing people off.

Quite frankly the "amazing discounts" are just not enough for B Grade items, if it was 40% off then maybe, but 10-15% no thanks would rather buy new.

OCUK refused to deal with it and then I got another message saying he spoke to Bailey and they will speak to Asus to see if there is something that can be done.

So if I hadn't of been on the forum and Bailey seen my thread (or anybody elses for that matter) it may of been a different situation. I think that's what hes getting at, everybody should be on the same page it shouldn't really take one to over rule another.

Saying that I'm grateful to both Bailey and OCUK for looking into it and seeing if anything can be done, I'm really surprised at Asus.

This. I was looking for a long time at B grade graphic cards. Never saw anything to tempt me.

+1

'Amazing' has no place in describing this sale area. The small discounts aren't worth the risk involved in my opinion.

You made two mistakes, firstly buying B grade. The discounts are dreadful, a complete and utter joke.
Secondly was buying an Asus product. The customer service with that company is the worst I have yet to experience.

It's not Asus. Asus RMA's have to be done through the retailer that the item was purchased from. It's not Asus fault if the retailer then tells the buyer it's not their problem.

I have only bought Asus motherboards for the past few years as they are solid products with a excellent bios layout. Nothing wrong with their products at all.

I don't know if it will help much, Asus Rep >> http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/member.php?u=171330

Former, unfortunately. Don't think there is a replacement on OCUK.

AFAIK, the issue isn't so much that ASUS don't do direct RMAs, but more that the warranty is dependent on a variety of things, including an original receipt. If you've bought second hand or bought B-grade stock, then that warranty isn't likely to be honoured and the RMA is likely to be rejected. Obviously strings can be pulled etc, but that's how it is. I've heard that ASUS had a lot of problems in the past with people buying known faulty items second-hand then trying to RMA via the serial.

I did try to look into it once in response to a direct query, and the general impression I got is that if you buy B-grade you should assume no manufacturer warranty, though of course a handful might get lucky.

I'm gonna need to replace this.

What's a decent card for around £100? the computer its in isn't used as much but we do Lan on a few older games now and then. F1, Fifa and a few point and clickers like Total war and stuff.

Nothing amazingly stressful, he also doesn't mind dropping the quality a bit.

What card should I be looking at? I was thinking of a 950 or something?

Or would flashing it be worth a shot? Its showing artifacts in the bios during boot so I'm guessing its bad onboard memory but I'm not certain.

Is it possible that flashing the card could help?
