Bah. So I'm a child killer.

True, but if your car is broken into overnight and the location isn't where you claimed to park it then you might have a harder time getting them to pay out.

I doubt that very much. The question they ask is where it's usually parked overnight. You can always claim it's not a usual night.

They don't improve safety by being there. They improve safety by trying to discourage people from speeding. The way to do this is when people don't know where and when they'll be.

I think this can have a converse effect as I now drive with such a paranoia of all vans parked at the side of the road to such an extent where whenever I see one I automatically and involuntarily jab on the brakes, even if it's not a speed van and I'm doing the correct limit anyway.

Welcome to the 'hardly worth it' club.
58 in a 50, and a mahoosively dangerous 79 in a 70 on the a303 for me :p

I took the course, but in hindsight I'd have taken the points & paid the extra £15.

That's a flaw in your own driving and not something that affects most of the population, there's no evidence to suggest that speed cameras are anything but a deterrent (how effective a deterrent is another discussion). You should learn to be more conscious of your surroundings and the speed you're doing

Prior to accepting the SAC, in the offer letter and on the day itself they clearly and plainly stated that I was under no obligation to inform the insurance company.

As I had it in writing from the police, I was happy not to mention it... I've also never been asked, even when I was with Admiral.

The trouble is that doesn't work as it's so rare that they're around! Hence why they catch so many people.

34 in 30 zone means your indicator was probably nearer 40 in the car? same with 79 in 70, it was probably showing more like 85?

I very rarely speed; on the m/way if /everyone/ is doing 85, I'll do it too (it happens) but for towns etc I just don't -- if you do a long trip, it's just too exhausting to have to spend your time watching out for cameras anyway, and in the long run, when it saves you a *single minute* on a long trip, it's not worth the trouble.

Just try it. take the satnav, book your journey, look at the arrival time, then speed all your ass off, and all you'll 'win' is a handful of minutes at most.

As for it being boring, well, there's some roads when doing the legal limit will require quite a bit of concentration and skill -- that's where I have my fun ;-)

Be prepared to want to kill yourself if you take the course, 4 hours of trying desperately to keep my eyes open, it was horrific!

I did mine in a very posh hotel (Casa). I found the course was quite interesting, the dumb **** know it all taxi driver that questioned every single thing that was being show to us was the annoyance.

Was such a ****ing idiot. Annoying me just thinking about him lol.

There was a woman on mine who would not stop arguing with the instructor.

Even if you don't agree with what they're saying just smile and nod to get out of there on time.

I've done two of them, and I also found them quite interesting. Likewise, on both courses I've encountered similar know-it-alls to your taxi driver.
