The institutions that bind us.

Are you serious? Well our national government for a start...

Political beliefs. Scottish people prefer socialist policies the rest of the UK do not.

Studies(1) have shown that there is no real difference between the Scots and English on political issues. If you want to claim otherwise, cite a source.

And if 49% of the Scots wanted to stay in the Union, how can you justify forcing those people and their property out of the Union if this is just about politics?

Your argument doesn't make sense.

Pish. The hate flows the other direction.

well if you get indipendance and go whole heartedly into the Eurozone as the SNP want, then get ready to spend a shed load on your southern boarder as you welcome untold ammounts of euro nationals into your neighbourhood and join the schengen agreement, itd be down to you lot to pay for and maintain your closed boarder between us and you, and what with the very low yeild of oil profit are you sure you can afford it?
unless you want to pick n choose your way into the Euro when other nations had allready said they wont let you pick n choose :)

thread needs closing tbh and reopened in many years time IF they have another referendam
pointless thread is pointless

The UK government... You must be joking. It has never been more divided. What other institutions bind us?

Closed border? Why would we have a closed border? We already allow EU nationals to come and live in Scotland.

Indeed, the people of Scotland have spoken and the only reason this thread is still going is because lovelyhead refuses to believe what we decided.

ive RTM'd it as its pointless and argumentative, there is simply no reason to let this carry on

Hate to break it to you but the last time I checked the 97% of all elected representatives in Scotland were not part of the government.

When Scotland does become Independent it will be because the majority of Scots want it.

As we say in Scotland, what a load of pish! Again, hate to break it to you, Scotland is a left leaning country. I am living in one right now so have no need to go anywhere. Unless when you say country, you are meaning the UK, which would further my argument that Scotland holds different political beliefs than the rest of the UK and would be better of going it alone so that we could have a chance of implementing those socialist beliefs without the kiddy fiddlers down in Westminster saying, naw.

Again, you miss the part where Scotland is a fully fledged part of the UK. And by country, I do mean the area under which the government rule. Sure, it is nice to have Scottish patriotism, but along with that, is the patriotism to the UK as a whole, as it is a whole.

Closed border? Why would we have a closed border? We already allow EU nationals to come and live in Scotland.

Because he is talking about an independent Scotland being a new member of the EU, where the rest of the UK isn't. And as such, the border between the UK and Scotland will need to be closed and regulated due to the Schengen agreement.

I love how you fail to acknowledge my points about your previous arguments. Is that because you now realise you didn't have a leg to stand on?

Anyway, for most Scots, the Westminster system is evidently working, because the majority voted to stay in.

I can't deny Westminster has had a bad few years, but let us be clear, all governments across the world have similar scandals. We are not unique. If Scotland became independent, it would be only a matter of time before it had its own scandals. Because as the saying goes: power corrupts.

Well, unless you think Scottish MP's are somehow morally superior to English MPs and would never indulge in corruption or criminality? In which case, you'd be a racist ;)

NO only just winning the referendum was hardly a ringing endorsement of the Westminster system.

I would say 95% of Scottish MP's are superior to most of the other MP's.

So just turning up to work more regularly makes 95% of them better than most of the other MPs?

Obviously. Just take a look at this:

Unionist MP's are a disgrace for the most part. It is no wonder unionist parties are facing extinction in Scotland because of scenes like these.

It will be interesting to see the stats for how much time they spend in the Commons at the end of the parliament.

IIRC MP's aren't expected to spend all their time in the main hall because many of them are on specific sub panels which see them doing their work out of it.

Not to mention the common habit of some of posting pictures from BBC Parliament to show how they don't turn up is often using shots from late at night, or from a different date/time to when it's claimed.

Lol

in the time it took me to read up to Jokesters post in this thread, and do a reply Lovelyhead has done the "post picture without any date reference and compare it to another one" thing.
