hey guys,

im really torn here, i currently have a gigabyte gtx 970 g1@1500mhz
im wanting to upgrade it, im also going to watercool my PC including the gpu.

so as im going to watercool them, i want them to last a long time, so do i get a single 980ti? or 2x r9 390's? im also going to get a new monitor.

so if you have £1000 to spend on a monitor and a gpu or two what would it be?

thanks

If I have £1,000 to spend on a monitor and GPU I buy the 980Ti now, because I'm not a fan of multi-card microstutter, then I save a little bit more over the next 2 months and get the PG279Q when it comes out, at least that's what I'm doing anyway. :D

Single card setups are best at the moment but there is some talk of DX12 offering improvements in multi card setups, people are saying it will remove the microstutter commonly associated with SLI or Crossfire but this could take a year to make it to the end user.

Personally, I'd be tempted to go with the crossfire setup, especially if going for watercooling. You won't however have crossfire compatibility in every game and you may have to wait for crossfire profiles, if you constantly buy games the moment they are released this will annoy you, if not, not so much.

A lot of pros and cons really, better performance with crossfire, better stability with a single card solution.

just had a look at a 144hz 1440p with a 980ti, out of budget :(

You know you can get 4k gaming for under £300, the only downside is you are limited to 60fps.

I'm currently undecided on my monitor upgrades myself. 4k/4k eyefinity/large duel desktop/super wide single/duel/standard eyefinity with high refresh 120-144.

I do know I want freesync without a doubt. I'd recommend the same to you or g-sync if you go nvidia.

i want a monitor with IPS, im using a dell U3011 atm that a friend has let me borrow, now ive used this IPS monitor, i cant go back to TN lol.

ive got a 24" 144hz TN next to me as my second monitor :D

if the MG279Q had g-sync i would be all over it, saying that, just having the 144hz ips has got my attention.

but i am looking at the 980ti more tho

144Hz+IPS+G-Sync+980Ti is out of your budget, but to not get a 980Ti when you have £1,000 to spend is madness, so either do as I suggested before, or the if the budget is that strict then MG279Q is your only option.

I'll have to have a stroke into a local store some time
Is it wrong that this made me chuckle inside? I guess you meant "stroll".

You really don't want to speed upwards of £500 and have profile problems meaning you can't fully utilise your graphics cards.

Get the 980Ti and buy the best monitor you can with the remainder.
