Am i justified in my complaint or being petty?

I could just imagine telling my VP that I was going to do my contracted hours haha. Haha even saying i want 30 mins for lunch...

Couldnt see myself being in employment long...

Just wondering: If you hurt yourself whilst carrying out unpaid work on the premises outside of you official working hours would the insurance pay out?

Problem is OP you have made a rod for your own back by doing it in the first place, and by bringing it up with management they are going to be a little annoyed if you stop doing it now...

he's an employee, he gets a salary, he's not doing unpaid work as far as that sort of thing is concerned despite what the union types on here might think

that is completely separate to any insurance issues that may or may not arise from people actually doing unpaid work - i.e. non paid work experience people who aren't employees

I don't think you are being petty. If that is someone else's job, then I wouldn't do it on a daily basis just because you arrive earlier. Start coming in later and let them sort it out. Then go back to coming in early :D

Managers are arrogant plebs. When I stated that my 'manager' was taking the **** rolling into work an hour late because he thought he'd go to Subway leaving me to run the start of the shift, the response was laughter.

He's now recently got a promotion, lol.

Stop doing them favors. From the response of your manager he's taking you for a ride. Don't be exploited.

Don't post this again unless, like Milton, you will burn the building down.

Lol, thanks for the laugh. Do you own a red swingline by any chance? :D

To the OP. If you like your job and have decent career prospects then just keep doing what you are doing. If it is a crap job and you hate it just do your normal working hours. You are giving them a set amount of your time and they pay you for it. You owe them nothing and they owe you nothing, so only go above and beyond if it benefits you.

Just recoup the time by going for a five minute long poo and two five minute long faps every day in work's time. Just don't forget to wash your hands after each break. :p

Everyone saying get in with enough time to have a coffee and be ready to start work at the allocated time have the wrong idea. You're supposed to get to your desk at your start time, click some things on your computer for 5 minutes to kid yourself that you started work on time, get up, make tea, come back to your desk, drink the tea, then go for a 10 minute dump while you're getting paid for it.

Just get in 5 mins before your actual shift starts. You can't really claim OT when you aren't actually working, that's a little cheeky. However don't burn any bridges, you don't want to p**s people above you off

Not sure if it's been said as I've only read the first page.

If you have to spend 15 min opening up, make your brew and sit there for 15 min after that. if they complain about you not starting on time just explain your having your 15 min back.

If they have a problem with you doing that then you have 3 options.

1 get there 30 mins early.
2 have a brew at home or elsewhere and walk in at start time
3 suck it up and just get on with it

I have been in this situation before.

The only way to make them realise, is turn up exactly 5 minutes before shift and only start opening up bang on your start hours.

When it's all open late and people complain, that is when they'll act on it.

Do it right, and you might get an earlier finish and slight shift change.

In work, expect to be working.
Is it your job to turn on the machines normally?

Also, have you made management happy by taking on more responsibility? Maybe you would like more responsibility as well and even get promoted.

Go beyond what you are meant to do is what gets you promotion.

Tbh I've taken on a lot of things there in a view to getting opportunity's for promotions etc but nothing seems to change. I feel as if I'm just being taken advantage of.

Any good will I've had previously is declining rapidly. I've worked there 15 years and any loyalty I have shown in the past has been pointless in my opinion hence my OP.

I am currently considering a career change but time will tell if that plan works out.

In the meantime i will accept all critism and comments graciously from my fellow ocuk overlords.

Doing extra work and expecting anything to come from it is foolish. When did you last have a review? Did you mention anything then about taking on extra work?

its simple if your not happy leave, no point in messimg about hope you find something good if you do leave

Thats what I'm weighing up. Now I've got kids its not so simple. The job is secure and although the money could be better its OK. My department is smashing all its targets. Outperforming the rest of the depot and yet I just feel like I'm not appreciated for what I do.

That old saying the grass isn't always greener comes up a lot these days.
