Best 2nd hand GFX card for G3258

Personally think a 270x is as far as I'd go , running one @ 4.0 with one and it does struggle with most tittles to make full use of it , although for something like bf4 I'm sure it would do nicely

Don't go AMD (unless you find 2nd hand deals), it has too much CPU overhead for a G3258. Imo a 960 would fit the bill, but I just don't like the card at all. Too little performance for the $.

7950 7970 £50-£60 280x is just a re badged overlocked 7950 or 7970 pretty much.

Isn't this outdated information with the latest drivers?

I've seen lots of people on forums referencing improvements on CPU usage with each of the driver releases since Omega, in particular with 15.7.1. I've not seen any reviews or anything scientific carried out, but nobody has come forward and argued against any improvement. For me, that's good enough and I now wouldn't argue either AMD or Nvidia is better for CPU usage, so OP - I would simply go with the fastest card you can get for the money you want to spend. If you've got the money for a 7950/280 then go for it.

You're always going to be limited by something in every game & setup, so why not go for a GPU that is held back by your CPU in some games rather than a lesser GPU purely to lower your performance to the level where your GPU becomes the limiting factor? You can always upgrade CPU later on to get better performance, which is going to be cheaper than having to upgrade CPU and GPU to improve things?
