Not the most exciting thread but I've got a Volvo XC70 as a loan car at the moment, it's not brilliant but the leather seats have got to be the most comfortable I've sat in! That's compared to a Range Rover Sport, Audi A6, Mercedes ML, Jag XF. Might just be me with my dodgy lower back but I'm seriously considering switching to a Volvo for my next car.

Volvo has the best [standard] seats of any manufacturer by far.

If you've got a dodgy back, getting a Volvo isn't a bad idea. As you say, they're not amazing cars and won't set your world alight, but they're bloody good.
The new XC90 looks absolutely stunning.

Just looking at the XC90 now, very nice looking car, comes with loads of kit as standard too.

I bought I fairly badly broken 940 as a stop gap. Drank stupid amounts of fuel and had water coming out in places it shouldn't but was soooo comfy.

Moved to a Skoda Octavia, and the difference in interior quality is night and day. Not just comfort and material quality but also the Volvo interior was just better designed. There were so many cubby holes and if you put stuff there it stayed there.

I can see why values of old 940s and 960s are actually on the up. Although I think next time I will go for something a bit newer.

True story. I had a Volvo S90 for a while ('updated' 960).

Stupidly thirsty but unbelievably comfy. Even did burn-outs :D
They're rare as hen's teeth now but the vast majority are in NL with a billion miles on the clocks selling for ridiculous prices.

People still pay good money for these old Volvos.

The seats in my V50 are ridiculously comfortable. Having done some rather lengthy journeys in them I haven't even gotten out feeling an ache.

They are good, Ovlov are well known for it. My Dad's T5R seats were out of this world, but the best seats I have sat in were in his Rover SD1 Vitesse. You'd sit in them and all the mirrors were off and you felt high. 10 minutes down the road you were 2 inches lower and they felt superb! :D

Love the seats in my S60 (R-Design). Whatever you do though don't get an R Design (non-XC) if you've got back problems - the lowered suspension and 18" rims make them bumpy as hell! :(

Shame - Love the car otherwise.

Owned an S60 for 18 months and happily agree that they're ace seats.

For all that, and IMO, I believe that my BMW sports seats are on par, if different.

Same for trucks, whilst a Volvo FH may not drive as well as say a Mercedes Actros or Scania Topline the seats of the Volvo beat both by a long long way from a comfort point of view.

I don't, but I do think the comfort seats are :)
Comfort seats are excellent, but they're quite hard, like all other German seats.
And they cost £2k. Volvo seats are standard.

I think what make comfort seats so good is the range of adjustability.

You should - we love our XC90. Volvo make the best family cars IMHO. Not super fast or exciting to drive, but comfortable, reliable and safe.

I did a 10 hour drive to the Pyrenees for the TdF in ours and I felt fresher upon arrival then I had any right to.

I thought the seats in my 2001 XKR were a tad more comfortable than an XC90 and V60 that I had as a rental, but there wasn't much in it.

I also like seats with decent adjustable lumbar and side bolsters.

For stock seats they're great... one of the best stock for sure... although a few car makers do some expensive option pack seats that have adjustability and comfort on par with those voodoo seats... but not vw/soda group or similar.

Bothe those valves had the d5 engine though and the fuel consumption was absolutely abysmal unless you stuck to 55-65 on the motorway... head up to 80 and I was averaging 35mpg in both cars...

The XC70 I'm in is similar, still beats my RRS and the ML I had on loan previously :p

The 2l 4 cylinder D5 in the new XC90 is meant to be much better. Strange that they still call it a D5...

Yeah... I thought the Volvo D5/T5 have always been 5 cyclinders...

But a LOT of manufacturers are doing that annoying **** now... Merc on just about every car... A45 is a 2L... lol

BMW changing the 640 from a V8 to the same twin turbo s6 that's been called the X35i/d engine since about 2006/7... which is still a 3 litre... now that's progressing to the 3/4/5 series... maybe 7

All recent 325/328/330/335 are 3l engines.

It's everywhere... I guess it must have some marketing benefit to the average joe, otherwise it wouldn't be happening?

... I'd much rather have a 530/535/540d with comfort seats
