I wanted to upgrade to Skylake which means a change of motherboard too, preferably one with wifi, what about the memory?

I was thinking of this graphics card:

If I were you I wouldn't change that processor at all. You will not see a difference, a big enough difference that is, to warrant the cost of a £300 processor, £150 motherboard and £80 of RAM.

I'd suggest just getting a Z97 motherboard with WiFi and grabbing yourself the 980Ti you want.

Edit: If you've been bitten by the upgrade bug, and you really want to upgrade, the best option for the i7-6700k price point would be this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Zotac GeForce GTX 980Ti AMP Edition 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (ZT-90503-10P) £529.99
1 x Intel 5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - Retail (BX80648I75820K) £293.99
1 x Asus X99-Pro Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 ATX Motherboard £259.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit - Black (TPKD416GM2400HC16QC01) £83.99
Total : £1,177.56 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

Although I'd rather just get a cheaper motherboard and pop a WiFi card in. If you do want inbuilt WiFi, I believe this is the cheapest board with it though.

If I stuck with my current CPU since I mainly use my rig for gaming which mobo would be best? Preferably I would also upgrade the RAM, in addition to the graphics card and perhaps monitor.

You reckon that card is a step up from my current crossfire setup?

I believe the Z97 Pro by Asus is very highly rated for its 'bang for the buck' price point, so I don't see anything wrong with getting the WiFi version of it.

From a quick Google, the 7950 Crossfire is equal to a GTX 980, and a GTX 980Ti is a huge improvement over the 980 - Add onto that the future upgradeability (is upgradeability even a word?) of a 980Ti, and I'd say it's a good choice to make for the long run. You're free to get some money back by selling off one or two of your 7950s as well.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Zotac GeForce GTX 980Ti AMP Edition 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (ZT-90503-10P) £529.99
1 x Asus Z97 Pro Wifi-AC Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £159.95
1 x Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (CMY16GX3M2A2400C11R) £89.99
Total : £789.53 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

Personally id just get a new gpu, 980ti is a good shout. The rest of your system is still very decent.

I've heard people mention that DDR3 is coming to the ends of its life cycle and that the 5820 will increase in performance once directx 12 hits, what do you think?

There's hardly any difference between DDR3 and DDR4 at the moment - So, whilst in theory it is becoming end of life, it's still sufficient.

There's no real proof of DX12 becoming an amazing solution, and it's going to be years before it's properly utilised in games. Your 4770k is sufficient for now, and when DX12 becomes mainstream, there are likely to be better 6, and 8 core processors out. If you are at the higher end of CPUs at the moment, I don't really see a point in upgrading.

As the guy above me mentioned, you could get away with popping a 980Ti and a WiFi card in, but if you'd like it built into the motherboard, the Z97-Pro WiFi is a solid choice.

Ok I've actually already have powerline adapters at the minute (ZyXEL PLA401v2 200mb worth an update instead?) but encounter problems occasionally, but minus the wifi whats the difference between the mobos?

I'm considering just getting the GPU and top of the line memory 16gb, which memory would you suggest? The Corsair Vengeance Pro?

What about a new drive? As my 1tb is getting on now.

If you are gaming, set aside a small amount of money to pay for having a cable run from your router to your PC, would be a much better upgrade than a wifi card.
