i was in my local trade in store and noticed they've a shiny looking 15" mid 2012 Retina Apple MacBook Pro 10,1 , i7-3615QM / 8GB Ram / 256GB
SSD. Selling at £800.

Now they can give me £342 store credit for my mid 2010, 13" macbook pro to use towards the new mac. so me having to spend another £458 to make up the difference. I Was wondering is it worth it OR can these be had elsewhere at a much better price?! (yes i've not looked much as it's more an impulse buy).

I'll be using it for building and burning dvd's (which take an age with my current model) plus my uni work. Which i was thinking with the extra screen space will help in having multiple windows open when needing to study etc and put it into my assignments.

any help or advice would be appreciated

I suppose only you can say if its worth it or not to you, is the increased performance/reduced work times THAT important to you?

Why not trade in your old MBP and get one direct from apple with HE discount? Not only is it brand new but will have 3 years warranty and right now a free pair of Beats headphones for you to sell or keep, if thats your thing.

this, a 2012 MBP is going to be slow compared to todays models, plus you can make a new one last longer.

cheers for the replies guys. hadn't thought of doing that.

checking the apple trade in they'll only give me £100 for my mac. i'll sell it private first i think and order direct from apple once i get a little more funds together.

just got to think of what spec to get

remember the free beats and 3 years applecare from the education store, sell the beats for £100 on eBay and you get a cheap mac to top it off. I just paid £1203 for the top line 13" MBP with apple care and the beats.

its £1399 normally, plus £199 for AppleCare & beats £169. thats an insane deal!

They're great machines. My 2012 15" retina is still going very strong, still feels very fast and snappy also.

However for DVD burning you will need a usb drive, as the retinas don't have a dvd slot. Can be picked up quite cheaply, or the apple super drive is about £60.
