Hey guys,

(Everything worked fine in Win 7)

I've got the GA-Z77X-UD3H rev 1.0 and just upgraded to Win 10.

The two USB 3 next to the PS/2 ports no longer work with my keyboard (Razer Blackwidow) and Mouse (Roccat Kone). Both are getting power as the lights are on.

The 4 USB 3.0 near the LAN work fine and the 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 on the front of my case also work.

Have been to the Gigabyte website and installed the latest chipset and even tried installing the USB 3 drivers for win 8.1. BIOS is F18 which is the latest official release.

Does the top 2 USB 3.0 use a different driver?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have contact Gigabyte but no reply as yet.

Thanks

Out of interest mate can you boot off a live linux cd/usb and test them? That'd at least rule out hardware. Power is only an indication of that, power, rather than connectivity with USB. I'd be shocked if both ports were down, unless there's a short on/under the motherboard near it (really unlikely).

those two might be on a different set of controller. boot into w7 find out what that driver/manufacturer is. then see if there is a manufacturer driver available and override the w10 driver by manually update the usb-hub driver thru device manager

Im finding the Bios stable - I have been using it for a few weeks now - I think I upgraded from a really old one.... it added new options in my bios and changed the logo bios screen.

I didn't have to install any drivers - windows detected them and it all worked...

The issue I had was that my VIA usb ports were not working and getting error in device manager...

Yeah it's odd because in device manager i'm not seeing any errors.
One thing i didn't try was just connecting a USB memory stick, i'll give that a go later and let you know.

Thanks for all the replies, really appreciate it.

Ok so here's an update.

Tried my old Razer Copperhead mouse in the 2 ports that don't work. What i've noticed is Windows detects the mouse and installs the driver for the Razer Copperhead. So the ports work, but just can't use my mouse and keyboard.

Also put my USB flash drive into the other port and that shows fine. Must be something to do with keyboard and mouse then?

Win 10 gremlin maybe?

Tried running those ports in USB 2.0 mode? I'm having some possibly USB related issues on my Gigabyte board also: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18686548

I'm currently trying USB 2.0 mode because the top two ports are Intel chipset ports and the other 4 are VIA ports, so running my mouse and keyboard ports at USB 2.0 isn't an issue for me (although the front headers also become USB 2 depending what header I use) - same layout on your board too (top 2 intel, bottom 4 VIA).

I think the way you switch the ports to USB 2.0 is to go into your bios, find XHCI PreBoot and switch it to "Disabled" instead of "Smart Auto" (by default), that should remove the intel XHCI controller from Windows device manager, but the VIA one should still appear as a usb 3 controller.

Keep an eye on my thread, I'll report back there if switching to USB 2 resolves my problems.

Also, have you tried fiddling with fast boot settings in your BIOS, if you have Fast Boot enabled try changing the USB device initialisation to "All" instead of "Partial" incase it's causing issues.

Might just be coincidental, but when I upgraded to Win 10 my Z77 usb ports didnt work properly either. For mine it was in need of the very latest Etron drivers, once installed all worked perfectly. Not sure what third party drivers yours requires, but maybe similar issue i.e windows native drivers not sufficient.

They work fine on my Z77x-ud3h, sure they are the via ports.
Used F20e for yonks never had a problem although mines been modified.
