Massive Explosion in Tianjin, China - Cause Unknown

I used to work for Northgate, who owned one of the buildings right next to that.
Apparently cars in the carpark on the other side of the building melted
My uncle attended the scene and got some interesting photos. Glass and debris everywhere and all the windows in the nearby buildings were just gone. I have them saved somewhere.
It's just amazing no one was killed, due to the time of day mostly.

The initial explosion sent something into the air, then you see it coming back to cause another massive explosion. Petrol don't work like that, yes maybe the initial explosion was from the petrol, but the thing coming down and exploding bigger than the first explosion was a warhead of some kind.
Industrial accident on a epic scale.
You work in explosives and munitions I assume?

Just know a little chemistry that's all.

TNT explosion, notice the burst of debris compared to a liquid/gas explosion.
Petrol and gas expand in the air, anything chemical that reacts with a solid substance will blast the ground and air. But gas and petrol are a vapour/air blast explosion.
The person doing the video would not have started videoing until after the first explosion.
You are seeing the descending burning debris from the initial (modest) explosion.
This is what set off the subsequent (And much larger) fuel/air detonation.
Just know a little chemistry that's all.

My advice is wait and see, diagnosis by YouTube is the act of a nutter. See 9/11 fakers for evidence.
Looks similar to the gas explosion in Toronto awhile back.

Agreed, but calling people ignorant is not good form, hence my point.
I really hope that all residential areas are built a minimum safe distance away from the petrol refinery, but as this is China I fear the worst.
