I have noticed my water has recently been getting warmer than it used to when installed a year ago. Tonight while playing BF4 my water hit 49.5c and i was uncomfortable continuing to game as the res was very warm to touch (49c funnily enough) how hot should i start worrying at ? my 980 was at 66c and my 4790k @ 74c (both on EK blocks) and both overclocked.

Its never got that warm before usually it would never go above 39c, I have two rads one 360 and 1 140 (XSPC) and advice welcome im thinking of trading the 140 for a 280 or 240.

I found out that just hoovering them every so often isn't enough, you've gotta pull the fans off to clean them properly!

i did look for dust and the rads looked clean however i did not take the fans off so i will take the fans off tonight and take a look. the air flow is still good as i put my hand over the exhaust and could feel the warm breeze. However i guess it would still be a warm breeze if 50% of the rad is blocked. Will report back later and see if that helps.

sometimes gunk get stuck in the blocks, causing flow restrictions, so it might be an idea to disassemble the blocks and clean them out if the radiator dusting exercise does not help.

this is why i use noiseblocker fans, the eloop blades just pop off the centre motor and make cleaning the rads REALLY easy :)

if your rads are clean then most likely any of your blocks have gunked up, which restricts the flow as well as thermal performance. Worth draining the loop and testing the blocks to see where the problem is. But since your water is heating up that high, my guess is that your blocks are removing the heat just fine, problem is likely on the radiator end.

Would totally agree with this when rads are internal, just look at how dust filters get clogged in time.

This was one of my reasons for going with one external rad for my loop, it takes me just about 15mins to clean my rads+fans and case dust filters once a month.

Would just just give the rads and fans a good clean if you can do it without bleeding the loop and see what the temps are.

As for changing coolent depending on what you used, l used deionized water with Mayhems XT-1 clear added 18mths now.

Its still clear and temps have not changed, l service my loop every 2 years.

What tubing and liquid do you use?

i can still see the water flowing reasonably well to be honest as i can see the top of the rest moving about, I will whip the fans off tonight and see what dust is underneath. I would be dissapointed if i cant keep the water temp under 40c

My XSPC stuff used to leach plasticizer, so I changed it to Primochill Primoflex Advanced stuff.
Leaching would gunk up the blocks.

well i was debating changing the fluid to clear any way so maybe a good time to change the tubing. Kinda bored of the red. However i have a feeling my blocks will be stained by the red fluid as i dripped some on the bathroom towls when filling it. The wife to this day reminds me that "that stupid red stuff for your pc stains everything" so i have to keep the bottle in the shed :D
